suspension question

hey guys,,,i have a 2009 infiniti g37x sedan...and I recently purchased and installed megan racing lowering springs 1.25 inch drop. well im using my stock struts/shocks im sure I should have bought some new ones...well now im having a problem with the front struts hitting very hard over small bumps...there is absolutely no comfort in my ride no more...n I do have 20in rims also on the car..before I put the springs in it still had the feel of a infiniti! so here is my question.. what should I do?? buy lowering struts/shocks? or buy full coilover n yes I know the full coilover is the best way to go..but I need to fix the feel of this ride like asap...so I rather buy struts/shocks for now...but what kind do I need? cuz im having a issue finding a set for my car cuz its awd sedan...please help me with some ideas...sorry so long

I think you answered your own question somewhere in there.

Coilovers or go back to stock springs

That's it for your options.
There aren't any replacement shocks that would be an upgrade or work well with lowering springs for the awd guys.

I bought some gently used coilovers, also Megans. They are really cheap if you find the right deal. The bounciness is GONE, and while I am lower then I was on Eibachs I bottom out much less.

so you telling me nobody is making lowering shocks at all for the awd sedan? and no way will I go back to the stock springs...cuz the rims don't look right on my car unless its dropped...so I guess im stuck with going to full coilover set up...so which brand is the best for my car?

my car doesn't bounce around so much with the new springs they just hit very hard especially at low speeds...I live in upstate new York so these roads are bad up here...was just hoping for now to find some shocks/struts to hold me over till the spring time when ill be ready for the full coilover set up...but not having any luck finding any..

Your only option for struts is OEM or KYB. Were the bump stops reinstalled? That made a difference for me.

That said I just ordered the Fortune coilovers at 10/8 with street valving and Swift springs for my X sedan. I haven't seen a set but I heard that Stance just started making a set of coilovers for the X sedans as well but I don't have any other details. Best I could suggest is contact Adam over at race consulting agency. Or THM for the Fortunes.

Lol it hits hard because of the bounce, also known as long suspension travel. Your shocks do not stop the motion and the car bottoms out everywhere. I had the same thing with Eibachs.

KYBs are more of a direct OEM replacement and won't necessarily fix the issue. its just like going back to fresh shocks that arent designed for lowered application. However, it'll still be better. They are only like $250 -$300. For comparison, I bought my used set of Megans for $350. While they are not the greatest coilovers, the difference is night and day. My two cents.

Hey guys, I know it is kinda late but i found out that you could get custom koni's shocks for the awd G's. I emailed Truechoice Koni Racing services in ohio back in april about the build and was told it is possible. You would have to provide a pair of OE shocks for them to work with. Custom Koni Yellow Setup for X sedan - G35Driver <--- it has been done before on a G35x but the it is expensive. For the price to modify just the front 2 shocks for the AWD G's, you can already buy a full set of BC Coils...I didn't go through with the build but might reconsider it in the future if there aren't any better coils out by the time my shocks die.. Btw you can find out more info about them here, Truechoice Koni Racing Services <--i am in no way trying to promote or advertise there services but just want to share a alternative with anyone that may be interested like i was, hope this helps!

True Choice will custom-fab dampers for just about anything. A California Sentra guy running in the short-lived Spec SE-R racing series had True Choice build a set of dampers for his B14 Sentra.

If you have a spare $3k, you're golden.

You're right, they don't. They're a bit better but still not quite what I wanted. I have a set of "jounce stops" but I have no idea where I got them and haven't installed them.

g3742009 10-30-2014 09:56 PM

Well I called koni today if I send them my oem shocks/struts they will custom make me adjustable shocks/struts for about $550 each shock/struts! So for that price I'll just get a full coil set up!! Any idea on the best set for my car I should get?? I'm hoping for a good set that I can get the best comfort from..!!,??

I think bc racing makes an application for awd

Fortune 500 seems to be getting great reviews, but they're new so time will tell :dunno:
