Would changing to Michelin pss at same size make it much better?
Not by much. You will need to get a smaller wheel and more sidewall to make a noticeable increase in ride quality.

IMO, the answer for the title of this thread is it's almost impossible to keep the OE comfortable ride when you lower your car.

It's all about the physic. The function of the springs on your car is to absorb the impact from the tires and the road. The function of the struts is to keep the springs from bouncing back and forth. When you replace the OE springs with shorter springs, your car will face more impact from the road. It does not matter what kind of coilovers you replace the OE struts. The coilovers cannot compensate for the lost of the ability to absorb the impact of the springs. Don't trust 100% what coilover manufacturer's claims. I have kw coilovers installed on my car with 20" rims and Michellin PSS tires, still the ride quality is good but not even close to the OE ride. However, the corner handling of the new setting is way better than the OE, even my car is coupe sport model.

It is the trade off between the look/corner handling and the comfort ride. Only you can decide the middle ground of this trade.

This does make sense. I guess we can't get the best of both worlds.

It was said earlier than raising the car which in assuming would allow for more spring travel should improve the ride even on coils. I'm planning to try this soon with my v3s to see if it really helps

Where do you have the kw set for rebound and compression? And are you slammed of just moderately dropped

I'm also wondering if setting them too soft is making the ride worse than a more middle setting? I'm currently running them near full soft and it's a bit floaty but I thought this was supposed to greatly improve the ride yet out of th box didn't feel much different tbh.

I'm having kwv1 so the damper is preset but I guess my damper setting should be around middle and up on the setting.

I lowered my car about 1.5" on both F & R comparing to the stock ride height since the sport model is already dropped comparing to the non-sport models. I think now the top of my tires are at the same level with the highest point of the fenders.

Yeah you may need to adjust the damper until no floaty feeling. Also other factors that make the car have swaying effect are the car height and unaligned wheels. From my experiment, once the car is lowered, you need to install camber kits to make the ride close to the OE ride as possible.

I was wondering that too and now I know the answer. I just assumed they were going for the 4x4 look

I have a camber kit In the rear just not in the front

I can also see the top of tires but I'm running it on 20s with low profiles. What wheel setup are you running or is it stock?

I purposely got v3 over v1 because I found that middle setting too stiff/rough riding and assumed with the v3 set to near full soft it was supposed to make it much more comfortable

Does this mean going back to a middle setting will give the best comfort level?

This coilover stuff is not for me as I'm no expert in this. I probably should of just left it stock...lol

My wheels are

Front: 20x8.5 Offset 20 mm, tire 245/35R20

Rear: 20x10 Offset 25 mm, tire 275/30R20

With my mod, I don't have to install the front camber as all the alignment specs are in or close to manufacturer specs. However, for the rear I absolutely need the camber and toe kit.

Yeah, I think you need to go back to the middle setting. With V3, you can adjust the damper settings by yourself and it's should be easy. Remember if you adjust the height of the coilovers (not the damper settings) then you must re-align the wheels.

BUMP

I realize this is a nearly 1 year old thread but I wanted to update it because I feel like others may find the information useful.

About 6 months ago I got rid of my stock completely worn RE050A tires and replaced them with brand new S04 Pole Positions. The result was a dramatic improvement in ride quality. The car rides much quieter, smoother and softer while handling better and gripping much more. After this change I became completely satisfied with my swift springs and overall ride quality. It's been many months since I got these new tires and the car rides great to this day, I really do have a close to OE ride while getting much better handling now.

I'm still really careful when it comes to making mods that I think might screw up my ride quality, but when the time comes I may think about replacing my stock shocks with koni yellows. I'm not completely sure though since I'm honestly quite happy with the swifts on stock shocks. Maybe I shouldn't fix something that isn't broken?

I had SO4s before my current PSS and agree, they are a great tire--quieter then the PSS. On the street, I don't think their is any seat-of-the-pants handling difference between the two tires.

I have my Konis at one turn from full soft front and rear and the ride quality is very stock like. The only area they are harsher is on large pot holes. However, their ability to handle sudden elevation changes in one motion is worth the trade off of a little impact harshness on large pot holes.

The springs will shorten the life of your shocks. You could always wait until they are broke and then fix it.

you can probably achieve oe ride comfort and be lowered at the same time if you can find a company that will provide you with a custom set of springs...
ground control used to provide that but im not sure if they cater to the infiniti or nissan brand..
essentially find out what the oe spring rate is and maintain that with a shorter spring...

after i ditched the OE 225 yokohamas and put 245 bridgestone potenza re760 sports on, i too noted a huge improvement in ride quality, handling and road noise. the ride quality is virtually stock. tires make a big difference!

drkay... Are you running 225/45/19s on the stock G37XS wheels (19x8.5)?
