Uneven brake pad wear
So I rotated the tires on my 2009 XS last weekend and inspected the brakes. Front looked great, left right great, left rear abnormal.
On the rears all pads have ~50% life except the outer left which is just about gone.
The question - do i need a new caliper?
If both left rear pads were thin I would assume the caliper piston was sticking. Since only the outer left pad is thin, could it be something as simple a pad being hung up in the hardware or stuck caliper pins?
I only want to pull stuff apart once so I'd like to be prepared with all parts.
Thanks,
Brian

Kinda strange that only one pad in the back Is gone, rears do wear faster then the fronts, at least I know they do on the g37x's. Had to change the rears after only 15k, fronts still look new. All 4 pads in the rear were equally worn on mine

I should also mention that you should make sure your caliper bolts are properly greased, if the caliper was binding up on the pin that could explain what happened...could be that the pad wasn't seated properly as well

By an off chance did someone accidently install the pad with the wear indicator on the outside? I believe it is supposed to be on the inside...it wouldn't seat properly on the outside...either one fits on the inside

Following up on this -- replaced the pads and rotors yesterday.
The left outer pad was completely used up and all three other pads had ~50% life left. Upon disassembly, one of the caliper pins on the left side was rusted. I believe the the boot had not been slipped over the lip on the pin which let water get into the boot. The previous job was done by the dealer before I purchased the car.
I removed the rust on the caliper pin with a wire wheel and cleaned up the boot mounting lips on both the caliper and the pin. Based on the amount of wear on the other pads, I should get ~50,000 miles from these pads.
