Wobbly&Floating Feeling On Highways

I have a 2009 G37 Sedan. The car has 30K miles on it, currently I have the rays 370Z wheels on it, i bought the wheels used so i had them balanced, and had the car aligned by two different shops. The car doesnt feel very stable on the highway around 60mph, i read on another thread that the TOE might be off? Could this be my problem? The worst is when i hit a bump or switch lanes and the road splits, the car feels as if its getting really loose and wobbles... has anyone had a similar issue?

Ive also noticed that the PASSENGER side REAR wheel sticks out further about half inch more then the drivers rear, on the 350Z forums, that seems normal, has anyone noticed this on their G?

any feed back is appreciated...

If you had it aligned you should have gotten some printouts w/ your alignment settings, if not I'd see if the shop(s) could provide them. They should have let you know if they weren't able to get everything in spec.
It sounds like your tires may be tramlining, just google tramlining for a good definition. As far as your wheel sticking out further than the opposing wheel, that doesn't sound right but it you're read about it on the z site then you're not alone

Googled "tramlining" and got it. This could very well be the problem as the tires are run flats, which have a stiffer sidewall. I called the alignment shop to re do my alignment and take it from there.

Here are a few links of the threads to the passenger side wheel sticking out further...

pass rear tire sticks out much further then drivers side - MY350Z.COM Forums

Right rear wheel sticks out more than left rear wheel - 6MT.net Infiniti G35/G37/GTR Forums

Could be a wheel bearing getting sloppy... although at only 30K, that's unlikely.

I didn't think about that, i figure it would start making the bad wheel bearing noise... will look into that as well...

I don't believe a failing wheel bearing would start making noise until it gets really bad. And if that's the issue, don't fault the alignment shop for not seeing it. During an alignment, the car is planted on a ramp, not hanging on a lift.

When on a lift, if you grab the wheel by the tire and try to rock it towards the car with some force (top, bottom, top, bottom), it should be solid. If you have play... wheel bearing.

More mechanically minded opinions may school me, and that's fine. I'm no auto mechanic, so I'll just qualify this with the standard: AFAIK.

That's the way I know how to check wheel bearings! I wont blame you if you are wrong, no worries bud

I think it depends when you started having this problem, if the new (used) wheels/tires were riding fine for a while then started exhibiting the unstable feel then a bearing may be going out. If you noticed the problem at the time you switched the tires/wheels then it sounds more like a tire problem, especially since they're used. Tires that are new to you but have been used on another vehicle will have different wear patterns since they were on a vehicle w/ different alignment settings and may feel strange on your G w/ it's current alignment and stance. Going from a previously narrow setup to an aggressive Z set will also handle quite a bit different. A lot of variables in the mix, but I'd be zeroing in on the tires, especially if you alignment checks out.
BTW, how many miles on the tires and what brand & model are the tires on your Z set?

Well I've only had the car for couple months now, bought it with ****ty tires, caught a nail in one so I bought all 4. Had it aligned. Week later found the Z wheels and bought them, had the car re aligned. I'm not sure the miles on the tires but they aren't terrible, id day 60% tread left on them. They are the Bridgestone Potenza tires that came stock on the wheels. Im not really sure when the problem started because this all happened quick, just notice it more now. Might be the tries idk... will get new tires for next season and throw stock wheels back on for winter.

What are you noticing? Does it feel like a wheel is out of balance? Is the car difficult to keep in it's lane?

1st step - I'd put the orig wheels/tires back on the car and see if the issue goes away. Although I do love the 370z wheels, I didn't think they were a good fit to our cars w/o some adjustments (more than alignment? I don't recall now).

The car goes down the road straight as an arrow, it only wobbles when I hit a bump or try to switch lanes and the car gets outta the grooves. Obviously the car will shake or whatever after hittin a bump but this isn't normal, at least I don't think it is!

That sounds like the definition of tramlining right there.

I've never had run flat tires before, maybe I'm not used to how they roll down the road. Any suggestions on what tires I should go with next?

The Michelin Pilot Super Sports seem to get the best reviews on the site for a max performance summer tire. If you've got the budget it seems like the way to go

Oh those are prolly $$$$! I don't need a "high performance" tire, i commute about 40 miles daily with the car, sometimes couple miles are "spirited" driving. Looking for a "happy - medium" tire, not expensive but not some junk tire... Guess well see whats out there when the time comes to buy...
