Brake shudder after new tires
Brake shudder after new tires
I've had my 2008 G37s for about a year now and up until now, the only complaint I've had with the brakes would be the annoying squeal when backing up in the morning.
I just bought new tires a few weeks ago, Michelin Pilot super sports on the factory staggered 19" rims. Within a day of the new rims I started feeling a shudder on braking, but not all the time. Its sometimes on light braking, but sometimes on light braking it does not happen. I took the car back to the tire shop and asked them to remove the rims and re-install them paying special attention to the torque to see if maybe they unevenly torqued the lug nuts or something.
The tire tech told me that he thought the problem was my pads and pointed out to me that the outermost edge of the rotor had a small lip, this is at the edge of the rotor probably at the edge of where the pad sits. He said that sometimes when people get new tires, the extra grip can cause the brakes to bite better, heat the rotors, etc. I didn't really believe that, but after re-torquing the lug nuts, the problem remains.
So, I guess I am now to go and have the rotors checked and probably suspension parts in case they are worn and causing the problem. I am thinking to replace the rotors with aftermarket to fix the squeal problem and maybe the brake shudder. I'm not interested in spending extra money for high end racing rotors, just something thats at least as good as the factory sport rotors and hopefully rotors that would put out less dust and stop the squeal.
TLDR: anyone recommend reasonably priced replacements for my stock sport rotors? Anyone experience brake shudder after getting new tires?

Good luck, hope you're able to determine the problem.
yeah, i've got the original pads and rotors, but i've only got 46k miles on the car. Last year when i got the car, i took it in to the dealer for the squeal on backup and they said the rotors had never been turned and turned them, they said the pads and rotors had plenty of life.
I'm kind partial to EBC brakes as I put them on my last few vehicles and was very happy with them, but i'll check out the stuff from KNS.
