2009 G37 Shocks/ Stuts
2009 G37 Shocks/ Stuts
Hey Guys,
Im new to the forum, but a had a good question for yall.
I have a 2009 G37 Sedan. Bought tires for this thing about a year ago. standarad sumitomo's 70K tire. Had it aligned and all the good stuff. For about 6months now, the tire noise had continuously gotten worse and worse. Finally took it to NTB today to have them rotate, balance, and align again, assuming that it was the problem. The guy comes right out and says my shocks/struts are bad in the front...... The car only has 55K on it. and is only drivin highway. Does this seem like a real problem or was this guy trying to make money?? or has anyone else had this problem with such a young car?
Im no master mechanic, but i know enough to know thats a pretty tough story to pass.
What do you guys think?
Thanks!

At one point I have Avon tires on my g35 and the noise was so bad (sounded like bearing growl) that I checked all of my bearings for wear. Turns out that the tires had "cupped". Cupping can be caused by worn suspension allowing the tire to bounce on the road causing irrugular scuffs on the tires.
I replaced my tires with some nice Goodyear tires and the sound went away. The car was sold with 40k miles on the goodyear tires and cupping never came back.
Inexpensive tires cup a heck of a lot easier than nice tires. I don't know much about sumitomo tires but I'd put them on the inexpensive side of the spectrum.
With 55k highway miles on your car I'd suspect that it's the tires and not the suspension. Unfortunately, the noise will stay even if you get new suspension.

Thanx Monty2003
I agree with what your saying. I know there is a spec on when we are supposed to replace shock and its usually around 50K i beleive. But i find it hard to beleive those shocks went out so soon. I think i got some crappy tires as well.
Anyone got any good tire recomendations?? Need something affordable but not to cheap obviously.
Thanx guys,
Bryan

Personally I adhere to Infiniti's recommended service schedule and they do not recommend shock replacement at any fixed interval or mileage milestone. I replace them when the ride is unacceptable. The dealer recommends all kinds of extremely aggressive preventative maintenance. Luckily the previous owner of my car had brake fluid change(seriously??), diff fluid, coolant flush, transmission flush, etc done which is insane for a car with 30k miles.
If your shocks were badly worn I think you'd feel it in the ride. I've had great luck with Eagle GTs. They aren't high performance tires but they are Z rated and soft enough for aggressive driving but hard enough to have a 400 treadwear. They also provided a quiet ride.
