Did my Akebono BBK install today! pics inside of the process and issues!

The front ones went pretty smooth compare to the back ones! This is not step by step, just quick steps when i had time to take some pics.

The front were First.

The Z1 Motorsports "Premium" Stainless Steel Brake lines

NOW here's the back issues and problems.

To get to the bottom 19mm bolt that holds the caliper you had to raise the rear suspension up to get some clearance. That wasn't too bad, I got that quick.

just a comparison...

trimming process of the rear dust shield,... those cutters worked great!!!

NOW THE PROBLEM... I bought Z1 motorsports stainless lines and that's how the rears looked compare to what i needed vs OEM

Now when you use the stock line for the rear caliper that bolt right there wouldn't close all the way. That'ts where it stopped and wouldn't go in any more. You see that space on the end? That's how much in needed to go in more after it's being already tight. And yes the 2 OEM copper spacers are on there, just hard to see

So I had to go to autozone and get some washers

Had to install some washers and tighten the line up all the way. This worked when I was bleeding the brakes, no oil leaked out. ... Later I didn't drive the car yet though cause I will have another big issue below

Size: 211.7 KB

this is rear being complete.

Name: 120721_029.jpg
Views: 1558
Size: 198.2 KB

Now when I was putting my rear wheels back on with 5mm spacers on there already, my rear calipers didn't clear! i had no idea this would be an issue. Need to get some 10mm spacers now =(

Size: 184.5 KB

And when I was installing my rear wheel, I scuffed up one of the rear calipers with my wheels accidentally. Will need to get that fixed now! Can't drive the car until i get some spacers!

I'm not too keen to the idea of multiple crush washers to take up the space. Don't be cheap and get a proper length banjo bolt.

This is brakes after all.

^^^ completely agree...should never use multiple washers on an application that needs a good seal.

nice job man. i did a similar install. for the rear you could have just used an open ended wrench so you wouldnt have had to raise the rear.

stainless steel lines i got them from ConceptZ. amazing they replace the entire oem set up so you avoid the rather dangerous multiple washer application.

but they do look sweet.

For the front, It's two 22mm bolts! And yes they are PAIN to get off! It took me some time to break them loose. I sprayed some ani-rust stuff and used 22mm wrench and a rubber mallet by beating the wrench to get it loose. There was no other way but this. I pulled that wrench with all my might but it wouldn't turn. Beating on the wrench with Rubber mallet did work. You just gotta hold that wrench steady when you hit it, otherwise it comes off.

Well If I knew I was going to have that problem I would have bought a proper Bonjo bolt. But since my rear brake lines didn't come with anything, or in fact with proper SS rear lines then I had to do this.
Ohhh and I couldn't find that bolt anywhere so i ended up buying washers. And dealers part department doesn't work on Saturdays.
Ohh and BTW no body ever mentioned on the forums that the rear OEM banjo bolt doesn't work for the rear Akebono calipers. It was always the issue with the front.

No for the rear I didn't have a 19mm wrench, so I ended up using ratchet with the socket. And to get to that bottom bolt, you gotta move the camber arm out of the way. That was the only way.

@Shurik355, my point is that you should get the right parts and do it right. Your solution is temporary at best. If it was me, I wouldn't be driving a car with questionable brakes. You're putting yourself and others at risk.

On a side note, based on the difficulty you had getting the old calipers off, i'm curious when the last time your brake were serviced? Probably wouldn't hurt to pull 'em off every 2-3 years just to make it easier to get them off next time.
