Question Springs vs coils

Ok, clearly a noob question, before I get flamed for posting a thread that has probably been posted tons of times, i DID try researching but did not find what i was looking for I have a set of icons 880z 20x8.5 and 20x10.5, and a buddy of mine told me that coil overs are a MUST if i want to run this kind of setup and that springs are not an option due to possible damaging the wheels, suspension, and fenders; but i've come across quite a few threads with people running staggered 20" wheels with springs. Is he correct? what are the pros/cons of each?? any info is appreciated, thanks!

depends on the offsets really... if the offsets are not too aggresive, you can def go with springs if you wanted too... would really be able to answer this to 100% accuracy if you posted the offsets of the wheels... post the offsets for an accurate answer...

i did not clarify**. i would like to minimize my wheel gap as much as possible. I know coils can solve my problem easily, but price is kind of a determining factor at this point. yes i know, go big or go home, but I've run into a few things that set me back financially. has anyone had experience with this type of setup with springs that didn't make it look like an off road vehicle?

check this thread out... its G37sam's set up... he is on eibach springs...
https://www.myg37.com/forums/wheels-...ot-me-20s.html

a bit more aggressive than your front set up... his extends by .43 inches (11 mm)...

your rear is a bit more aggressive than his... by 9mm... yours would extend by .35 inches...

u can pull it off... instead of going 285 on the rears like he did, go 275...

this can be a good starting point for your spring set up while maintaining flush fitment...

springs with oem shocks will not get you low enough for it to look good and have the shocks last. might as well buy coilovers now instead of buying springs now and shocks later. the bigger initial investment really pays off on labor, especially if you're not doing the work yourself.
