Dropping-101

I'm interested in dropping my G37 but i know NOTHING about dropping other than it lowers the car and makes you slow down to 1mph to drive over a dime. Can somebody describe the process, the cost, the pros and the cons of dropping/lowering your g37? Id like to know how much it costs, how long it takes to get done, if it affects the performance of the car,and how does it affect my warranty?

Thanks guys.

Well first you have to decide how much you want to lower your car. Then go from there. Lower your car doesn't make you slow down, and the pros are you will have better handling, your car will look nice, and that's basically it. The cons would be that your tires will wear out quicker because of the negative camber. There are two fixes to that 1). Your can buy a camber kit 2). When you get your alignment done set the toe to 0.00. All that is after you lower your car so it shouldn't be anything to worry about. The next thing you have to decide is do you want to lower your car on coilovers or springs.

Exactly. You need to decide what you are looking for. I 1st started out on Springs and within 6 months I went to Coils... I would just go to Coilovers... Apexi makes great ones for the 2nd Gen Sedan. PM B L U E S L A T E on g35driver for details.... I believe Riverside Infiniti and Amplified Motorsports can get them at a Good Price... Actually try to hit up StreetWorks Automotive.... They are a sponsor, they can help you out!

Just go with coilovers don't even bother with. Just springs, you'll just switch to coilovers.

If you don't think you'll be adjusting the height, go with springs. A lot easier on the wallet. Coilovers aren't for everyone. Search for pictures of different drops and see which one looks best for you. If you want a very specific drop, get coilovers.

Dropping you car with springs will be cheaper. It will look better and handle better than stock. It's an easy modification to start with. Coil overs are a better solution because they are designed to stablize the suspension of the car, make it tighter and handle better. Springs will bring down the height of the car, but that's about it. Springs run between $500 to a $1000 installed. Coil overs will run $1000 to $2000 plus installation. Depending on the drop with coils a camber kit make be required to adjust the vertical alignment of the wheels. They are helpful so that you don't wear out your tires unevenly. They run about $500.

Ultimately if you just want your car lowered, you can probably just go with the springs, but my suspicion is that you bought a G37 because you liked the performance of the car. In order to continue to fully enjoy the performance factor, most everyone here will recommend coil overs.

Good luck with your decision and use the forum for assistance, check the classifieds, and hit up the vendor/sponsors who can be very helpful with your options.

Springs will be better for you. You could find used springs for 130-160ish (or new for around 210) and find a shop to put them on. That will run around 100-200 bucks. You will also need a alignment which is 50-90 bucks. If your drop is too low you will need front and rear camber kits, which are around 450-500 for both. Coilovers are more for performance oriented folks who have the money to spend on it. I myself am going with springs and rear camber kit only (too expensive for a front kit).
