Evapo-Rust

This stuff works great to remove rust on metal and it does not hurt anything else. However, if you search the web you will find different "evaop-rust" products and not sure if all the same. The one I used is described at this link: Evapo Rust Harris International Labs. I bought it at Ace Hardware for $19.99 a gallon.

I used it on my front StopTech rotors before painting for the rust ring. I put the rotor in a pan that was 17" in diameter and there was just enough in one gallon to cover the rotor, but not the hub. I let it soak for a few hours and no rust. Took it out of the pan, rinsed, cleaned with a rag and P-21, rinsed again, used compressed air to dry quickly so I would not get any flash rust, took the picture below. Now I am going to paint the rust-ring area, the holes and slots.

In the below picture, the Left is after treatment and Right is before treatment. They were identical being on the front of my car for the same amount of time.

Is that a before/after photo? The one on the left was like the one on the right before treatment?

Good stuff Hamster

Do you know if my Rotora rotors will get rusted like that?

I asked them and they said they have a coating and it should prevent it, but he couldn't guarantee it.

Stoptech also have a coating and it still became like that.

I believe you will have to do the same david unless the pads touch the whole surface of the rotora which I doubt. Ask NJlakeshoreG. I know he has rotora for awhile now.

I have not seen anyone with Rotora complaining. They are suppose to be clear coated after machining, but don't know for sure. If you have had them in the rain and have no rust ring then you should be good until the clear coating wears off.

Yeah they "tricked" me. I read that they were E-coated and it just did not dawn on me that they were E-coated before any of the machineing. They would have been perfect if E-coated after machning as that would have got all the holes, slots, etc. Some of the E-coating on the outside edge got scratched during machineing so I painted it too. They look great now.

Yeah painted rear before install.....a lot less work.....not so much the cleaning, but all the work to pull the fronts off just to clean and paint. Live and learn.
