GT Spec Strut Bar Fitment

Ok....so I just spent 1-1.5 hours working on getting my new GT Spec strut bar to fit. Here's my problem......Aside from there not being any instructions with this kit to address my problem....and it seems easy enough to install......but MY bar/brackets do NOT line up. I can attach the brackets to the strut tower (except for the bolts on the inside closest to the engine where I had to try and tighten them with needle nose pliers.)

The MAIN problem is....the holes on both ends of the bar do NOT line up with the openings on the brackets completely straight.....meaning I can't feed the bolts through both sides, only one. I tried MULTIPLE times to pull each bracket towards the side as far as they would go then fasten them down, still no luck. I have NO idea what's wrong. Did I get a defective set? Are my G37's strut towers closer together than every one elses? I mean, I have no idea what else to do.

Did anyone else have this problem????? Should I just contact Andy at HPA and get a refund? I mean, I don't know what else to do.

I sure will do that. NO ONE has done that yet, and since this bar doesn't come with any instructions, I think it would help other people on here who choose to buy that bar. After laying in bed last night I think I figured out what I was doing wrong, but I'm gonna meet up with Ben (MaxToTheG37) today if possible and see if he agrees.

Well, I made my second attempt a few minutes ago and was SUCCESSFUL. I knew there had to be a different way to approach installing it and I was right. So... I will finish the DIY later tonight since I've got a local meet to go to.

It was a lot easier than I made it out to be....it was just frustrating as hell last night.

I had the same exact problem. And being the baby genius that i am i solved it real quick.

Just take a microfiber rag and fold it up so its thick as possible, put it right in the center of the engine cover and "close" the bar on top of it, this will make the holes line up and you can slide the 2nd bolt through, then just pull the rag out. Ive done this twice so far with no issues at all.

I also had the same prob with the tower bolts, the nuts are so large(lol) that i couldnt get a socket on them since they were so close to the bracket, i had to rig some shiet with like 2 wrenches to tighten it.

Are you having any rubbing issues, or has this not been solved?
