Just wanted to post some interesting things I found. I got 4X of the latest one as I wanted to replace the ones in my Q50 as it came with: 74816-JU40C from the factory.

I figured out who the OEM maker of the sunroof drains is, it is ITW. Says it right on the side of the drain barb.

https://www.itwmotion.com/applicatio...-applications/

They made all the reversions included 74816-JU40D.

74816-JU40B Below:

74816-JU40D Below:

Here is a comparison of: 74816-JU40D (Right) and 74816-6SA0A (Left)

The flap on the latest one is actually rubber, and easily springs out of the way.

Can see how the previous version has the spout extending forward, not sure why they did away with that. The newest version features a thicker foam gasket.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news however I'm not sure if the newer ITW grommet will last longer than the original.

In my Floridian experience, I'm careful with debris, debris WILL clog both over time. The plastic stopper in the middle I suspect it to stop fast discharges of water/dirt from splashing water everywhere however as a side effect this acts as a shower drain.
The newer iteration can be just like a shower drain without the +. You know over time debris will be absorbed by the flap and get stuck. I suspect over time this flap will break and things will be fine.

It's in my opinion that with a dripper that has a lip to carry the water farther into the hole is the way to go. The leaks come from water traveling backwards as it slows down from the drain and the gasket deteriorates.

The straw trick removed this possibility by making it impossible for the water to drip back. I believe the grommet CANNOT have any sort of blockage in the hole and it should extend the drip a bit further forward.

The purpose of the rubber flap was to reduce or eliminate a "gurgling" noise on some Nissan cars, as silly as that sounds. I posted the TSB on it here.

Also would like to add, if you want to get version: 74816-JU40D still, Amayama still has them and probably will for some time.

This would make total sense.

However for the sake of a minimal effect of sound (because we all know the drains are oversized) you end up creating a flaw in the system.

Years of experience show you that there is about a 50/50 chance that water and debris enters this area. This debris doesnt always exit at the same rate water does. Because of the way things are eventually larger debris will collect and stick to each other slowing down the rate of water exiting. Over time this will lead to moldy debris which if there is a flap will absorb that and glue itself.

In my experience with the straw fix there was never a noticeable gurgling even with a full stream of water entering each drain.

Part of Infiniti/Nissan aim is to provide a competing quality failing many times. The failures of systems that let water enter the cabin should not be as common as they are on the V chassis. As we identify, learn their failures and come up with experimental fixes we come across superseded parts that sometimes improve the failure rate but dont fully eliminate it.

For the ones that are interested, I designed an adapter to connect the sunroof drain hoses and airco condensation drain all to one drain piece.
This can be printed by a 3D printer, see here.

Just wanted to update this, you can still get: 74816-JU40D from Amayama for cheap.

The new part, not sure how much I trust that flap, seems like something that would build up with debris over time, though could probably be easily unclogged and cleaned with wire.
