Map Light Fixture Swap

I am doing my pillars and headliner black and need to change some light fixture. I have been looking at the 370Z, Q60 and FX35. The Z actually is identical except no sunroof.

here is ours:

The leftmost harness is for sunroof, right most lights and the middle connects to a small black box that doesn’t go anywhere so I think that is a small speaker for the door ajar noise (I could be way wrong).

Does anybody know how the heck to get the harness off the bracket? I can’t figure it out for the life of me.

Once I get those off, I should be able to remove the sunroof piece and either incorporate it into the 370z (making a small cut out for switch) or relocating it.

FX35 Rear looks a little different than ours but I’m sure it’s doable.

FX35 Front. Looks dated but it’s on color.

Q60. This would be ideal if anyone knows the wiring.

I am leaning toward the 370Z b/ it seems to be an exact replica of ours minus the sunroof which can be relocated or incorporated. Only other difference is it doesn’t have a place for shades but who cares, that thing raffles anyway.

Anyone have any advice/suggestions?

Llikely the middle connector is for the Microphone (NAV/BT TEL).

If you are referring to the new Q60 (CV37), I have the FSM for that car and can easily look up the pinouts for you... I am willing to bet that the connections/wiring is practically identical. Let me know and I'll pull the iPad out and see what's what.

That would be great if you don’t mind. I tried looking in the fsm for our car to understand the various wires but couldn’t find it. Do you know what section it’s under?

Also, you really think that little box (middle connector) is a mic? I didn’t even know this car had any voice controls, lol.

Please someone tell me how to remove these harnesses from the brackets. I’m about to get out my saw.

The schematics are in different sections depending on the system:

Sunroof Switch will be in Section RF (Roof);
Map Lights will be in Section INL (Interior Lighting);
Microphone will be Section AV (Audio Visual);
There really aren't that many wires to deal with. Just focus on all the connectors labelled with "R" (roof).

The newer Q60 simplifies some of the wiring but, depending on the sub model, adds a few extras (telematics, 2 mics, etc.) which you will not need to deal with at all.

Just throwing this out there, have you looked at the map light from the convertible or the GT-R- that is if you want to remove the sunglasses holder?

More than likely you will have to destroy the bracket in order to remove the harnesses. Some parts are just made this way- easier to replace the whole unit than just the parts. Plus, more money for the parts people.

Oh wow, the gtr is identical to g37 except for sunroof switch. Too bad there aren’t many around so they are expensive. I’m going to keep looking for one tho.

I see g37 map light fixtures for sale on eBay attached to the bracket without the connectors attached so they gotta come off somehow. I need to salvage the bracket. I can’t take the business part out of the bracket without removing the connectors.

Also, any idea who has the same oh sh*t handles as the G but come in black?

I call it the "GT-R Tax." Anything related to the GT-R is going to be a bazillion times more expensive for the same damn part because, well, "it's a GT-R." SMH

I do not know about the "oh sh¡t handles." I would imagine they would be the same across all models, no?

If I can help in any way just LMK. Once you decide on and obtain your replacement you can tackle the wiring.

If the Q60 swap idea doesn't pan out. Would you considered a RIT type dye? I've dyed plenty of non-car plastics and rubbers. The finish can be a bit glossy depending on the starting materials, but the color sticks even in the sun.
The "oh-****" handles could be done as a test. They're cheap enough to replace.

BeeW- I haven’t considered painting or dying. Figured it would look cheap. I’ll look into what you suggested tho.

Results are definitely dependent on process. Luckily this guy did some experiments on sun-visor pieces for you! https://frontstreet.media/2016/07/13...e-to-painting/

So there is the harness for the roof, harness for the mic (which I still don’t know it’s actually for) and the light harness which has 6 wires. 4 wires go to the map lights and 2 go to this thing. What is it?

What the heck is this thing? It pokes out of that hole. Has infinity been spying on me!?

Ambient light. At night, when you turn the headlights on, there is a LED in that hole that casts a subtle light on your center stack/shifter area.

How have I never realized that? Lol. I think I’m just going to go with the 370z fixture. It’s clean and simple. Upon further review the q60 isn’t even that cool looking.

I also found that the 350z vert has black leather visors. So picking those up too. Haven’t found grab handles yet. It seems there is a ton of varieties on these.

Is there any other cool mods I can do while my car is completely stripped? A digital cluster crossed my mind but I actually kinda like the cluster we have. I’m open for suggestions.

Please don't mention gauge clusters- I'm about ready to beat the hell out of mine. Damn flickering LED's, worse than the frigging mirror ball at 54 at times...

The 370z unit will likely be more plug-and-play friendly than the Q60. I wouldn't have thought the grab handles would be such a hassle to pinpoint. Either way, glad you are getting everything sorted.

I was going to put in the the 370Z domelight assembly in mine when I did the suede conversion for my headliner. You could paint the dome assembly, but you'd also need to paint the middle button as well that opens the sunroof/moonroof. Also don't forget to have letters for the dome lights. Black grab handles are very rare to find, but also keep in mind that you should buy extra grab handles and the metal brass clips that connect the oh sh*t handles since they tend to snap or bend with ease when putting them back in.

I got the 370z dome light. Just going to relocate the sunroof switch.

I got some Nismo Sentra handles. Same as ours but black. I think I got lucky with those. Can’t imagine those are easy to find. Obscure item on obscure car.

Anyone know if the sun visor clips will line up for 350/370z sunvisors? I had a 350z and feel like they were smaller. They look smaller in photos too but hard to tell without perspective.
