Sedan owners what is the squeaking noise in the dash left of the steering wheel?

I have a '13 G37S sedan with 33,000 miles and the dash just started squeaking loudly. It took a week of experimenting to realize I can get it to squeak at 30 mph in 3rd gear and 40 mph in 4th gear, but I cannot seem to track down exactly the source.

It seems to be coming from the dash on the left side of the steering wheel. As best I can tell it is not from the A pillar or driver's door. I realize this is probably caused by the extra NVH from my suspension, exhaust, and bushings. Has anyone encountered a similar squeak and been able to find the source?

Do you notice it when you go over bumps, and especially in the cold? On mine, that was the windshield against the cowl. In another thread, someone recommended getting some adhesive felt and wrapping the bottom inch of the windshield all the way across like a like a taco. I did that two years ago and I haven't heard a sound from it since.

Good point about the windshield. I do notice it in the cold, but I think the final factor is the resonance at just the right rpm. I will try to see if I can move the plastic pieces by the windshield with my hand to get rid of the noise so I know where to add some sort of fabric/foam liner.

Wolff, can you post a picture? I have what almost sounds like chirps in the cold, especially over bumps. On occasion it sounds like it's behind me, but that could be deceiving.

Well, it is definitely not the windshield. I have moved/held steady every trim piece near the sound and no luck. So I think it is something behind the dash. SUPER! This will be tough to track down since it only happens at certain speeds.

There are a few, but I think youre referring to the one where the rubberized finish material on the dash, right above the buttons that control brightness of your gauges gets a tiny bit loose when its cold and makes an annoying squeak. Drives me crazy.

Next time you hear it, hold that bit down, just on the corner above the buttons, I bet thats whats making the noise. Could be the bit right behind those buttons, but its almost 100% in that area.

Hexotic- I really hope you are right. The diagnosis of the issue is what is going to be nearly impossible. Once I find the issue, I'm sure I can fix it right away.

Nope, it's not those buttons on the side of the gauge pod either, but it might be close to that. I was pulling on the pod from the back and it seemed to lessen slightly. Tough to tell for sure what the cause is though when you are driving.

I have an annoying noise around this area too, except it seems to only be in certain steering wheel positions. As in if I move the steering wheel up a little it goes away, or if I move it down. It gets pretty annoying and can't find where it's coming from yet

I appreciate your help. The diagnosis is the tough part. Once I find the cause, the fix should be easy.

You sure it's not the plastic cowl on the windshield

I'm 99% sure as I have tried pushing down every section of the dash while driving, but when I get time I might try putting foam between the dash and windshield to see if I can track it down.

So this noise has been driving me nuts the last 6 months and I have had no luck. So the other day I had my Nissan shop take a look. One tech spent 5 hours taking my door completely apart as well as a lot of the interior. At one point 4 technicians were working on it at the same time, but they had no luck either. The main tech got it to go away for a second and thought it was the seat, but said he did not actually fix anything. The next day the noise came back and I noticed the window was not reinstalled correctly. He spent a bunch more time working on it and thought it was coming from inside the plastic trim on the door sill.

Yesterday, I was driving down a street that let me constantly hear the noise. I thought about my seat and started reaching all over underneath to track it down. I think I finally found it!!! I believe it is being caused by the bar that adjusts my Sparco seat forward and back. I think if I just dip the ends in plasti dip and reinstall it the noise should disappear. I really hope this works.

Well that was a fun 6 months of trying to track down this annoying noise. Thankfully, I think I finally fixed it. I have been driving around for a few weeks and it looks like plasti dipping the ends of the seat slider on my Sparco seat fixed the problem. Hooray!
