Touch-up paint question.
Touch-up paint question.
Hey... I ran something over on the freeway a few days ago and it messed up my splash guard. My question is... I know I can buy touch-up paint for the metal parts of my car but does anyone know if the same paint will match up for the plastic parts of the car? I know sometimes it's just better leaving the scratch on the car then to put touch-up paint on the car
Also anyone else use touch-up paint and where did you buy it from?

may be best to use a putty type touch up system so that the area can be made level with the surrounding paint. May be able to do a base and clear coat with heavier paint, though it would be tough to get a completely level area with that large of a gash.
Directions for How To Apply Touch Up Paint - PaintScratch.com good source to see what you may need to do to repair it.

if all else fails, it may be easier to sand down the gash and surrounding areas and use a spray paint style touch up off the car (not sure how easy it is to remove the splash guards).

You ll be fine with a touch up..
The metal and poly/plastic part plays a roll but with a small part like that.. you ll be fine with a color touch up.
As above poster said.. you can use putty, make sure you scuff the surrounding area.. putty, then high build primer.
I find that wet sanding 320 takes the primer out better. Use 400 or 500 before spray touch up..
Easy squeezy

Above is why I'll always try to test color match of 2/3 different paints under the front bumper lip where non visable scratches almost always end up. This way I am see which touch up paint matches best. At $5-10 a bottle/can, why not.
The picture gives me an idea of the size of the scratch, but tough to tell the depth and texture. Factory touch up paint will match the color and that may work ok. Just use a small amount of touch up paint and gradually add more instead of smearing it all over the place. It will look much better, but not perfect depending on your painting skills. It may not last that long though as your tires may kick up a lot of debris over time and wear it off. I had this problem with touching up some spots on the splash guards on my car.
If you want it to look perfect you can always get a few estimates from body shops as it is a small part and should not cost too much to do it right- maybe 2-3 times as much as touch up paint. Just don't have Maaco do it. I had them paint some side sills on a car a long time ago and the paint started flaking off in less than a year.
