Custom Fog Lights

Here's a few fog lights I've been working on.

What are your thoughts on either?

I think the first pic would be cool as a DRL.

For sure, they look nice on the car. Each LED on the board produces around 72 lumens so you get a nice output on the ground, just not a crisp cut off like the projector fogs.

Questions:

How are you making the housings?
What SMDs are you using for the first set?
Do you have some close-ups of the first set of lights (both on and off)?
Are you prototyping at home? Using what equipment?

I love working with components and am curious about what you're doing especially for the top pics. I've been working on designing a fiberglass mount for the Morimoto X.DRL 5s, so I'm curious as to whether you made the housings yourself and how.

These housings are just OEM fog light reps with glass lens, I'm cutting them open. The board is a round pcb that I retrofit into the fog light. I solder the LEDs on one by one. I then epoxy the board in and seal the fog with silicone. I use a rubber grommet on the back where the wires go through and seal it with silicone as well. I then solder the wires from the board into a plug and play plug to plug into the fog light harness on the car. If you have chosen the swtichback version, I leave the wires out the back and solder the wires onto a switchback module.

There are outer and inner LEDs. I can make single color where all the LEDs are the same colors, or make it to where the outer LEDs are one color and the inner LEDs are another color. The colors available are 4k white, 5k white, 6k white, 7k white, red, blue and amber. The switchback version i usually put white on the outer LEDs and amber on the inner LEDs, so when the parking lights are on, the white LEDs light up, but when the turn signal is activated, it switches to the inner amber LEDs and blinks with the turn signal of the car.

Single/Dual color I sell for $150 plus shipping.

Switchback I sell for $200 plus shipping.

Here's a semi-closeup of the single color in 6k:

Here is a video of the switchback version with a mockup of how the turn signal would look when blinking:

Sorry for the novel by the way lol.

No. The write up is awesome. What LEDs are you using? They are elongated.

They are called power leds from korea, rated at 72 lumens per LED for the white ones.

You light them up and take one stare, you're going to be seeing spots.

I get these housings off of eBay. They are the ones with glass lenses instead of plastic.

Are those standards SMDs? They look like a single long LED. Do you have a link to a supplier? There are so many applications I would love these LEDs for.
