Amber parking light delete

So I've contimplated the idea a few times to remove the Amber parking lights when the headlights are on since I hate the look of the headlight housing with the HID headlights and the ugly Amber next to it. I always pictured it would look much cleaner with only the HID headlight on, but I've never seen this on a sedan until today, and I was absolutely correct - SO damn clean!

How can this be accomplished? The blinker would obv still need to be functional when that turns on but I just don't want it to remain on as a parking light. Any one attempted this? Any DIYs out there??

The 7444na is a dual filament bulb. I'm speculating, but perhaps you could block the connections for the normal bulb, maybe cut them or coat with liquid electrical tape...

What I don't know is if both filaments blink when the turn is signalled, or just one of them.

It wouldn't cost you more than $6 to test this. The 7444na is hard to source locally, but I've found them at Pep Boys in a dual pack Philips.

Auto Zone, Advanced Auto, and others in my area don't have enough selection to stock that bulb but Pep Boys near my office is as big as Advance and Auto Zone combined. Your market may be different.

^very interesting!

Ive heard this before, about blocking one of the filaments of the bulb.

And I agree with OP, would prefer the turn signal lamp to be normally off, and only illuminate to signal a turn (much like newer Euro cars). Even further, I'd disable the upper corner bulb as well, just looks ugly and doesn't really serve a significant purpose (I guess side visibility? But other lights are visible from side as well...)

Anyway to get to this bulb without remove the front bumper cover?

That's good advice, I will have to play around with it but you gotta love trial and errors that only have $6 max loss potential. I'm assuming that if I upgrade to an LED bulb, this won't be an option though since the LED wouldn't have separate filaments? Just checking options..

^maybe you can try LED switchbacks and "disable" the white LEDs?
(assuming you can somehow disconnect them, maybe with solder iron, not really sure...)

No, no actually it's not^^

I'm well aware of the switchbacks but I don't want any illumination of that bulb at all when the headlights are on, only the headlights. I feel like most white LEDs will not match the HIDs, and some of them are too bright and they "drown out" the HID light because they are powerful LEDs in a halogen light housing.

The projector headlight on its own is the look I want

Yes. It's possible to reach it without fully removing the fender splash guard...just like replacing a headlight.

However, it will be frustrating as you can't see it. You have to feel around and eventually find it. Follow the wires.

Or to save yourself some angst, fully remove the fender well splash guard.

I can do it with the guard on, and I'd suggest that you put a good 10 minutes into this method before taking off the splash guard. To get that bulb back in, I normally look in from the front and can see the bulb through the hole. It helps line it up if your arm is long enough. Then twist and you're done.

You'll have to do your research on which filament is which and the correct wires. I'm planning on putting in some yellow fog light bulbs this weekend, so I'll be taking off my splash guards. I may try to investigate this a bit. I have a spare bulb even.

Can someone confirm which filament is the turn signal? I assume it's the brighter one?

Another thought...which will take a bit of research.

The 7440 and 7443 are physically identical with regards to the mount from what I can tell. Can anyone confirm?

The 7440 is a single filament bulb. I'm not sure if its role is to be a blinker or a parking light...so being 1 filament...maybe it would not require modification at all provided that the leads on this bulb line up perfectly with the blinker leads on the G37.

Make sure you source the NA version (7440NA) so they are amber and not white (this would be another $6 test)

They match very well. Leds in parking and turn signals are both Phillips diodes

Would you have a pary number on those VLEDS by any chance? There were a bunch of different options on their site the last time I was on there.
I'm spending so much otherwise I may as well keep going.

Are the VLED Switchbacks
1) white without signal, then blink white-amber-white-amber when signalling, or
2) white without signal, then off-amber-off-amber when signalling?

Anyone know a make/part# for switchback that behaves like 2) ? This is more like how the Audi style turn signal behaves, and it seems little bit nicer to me

Do you think the front harness is wired to line up with the 7440 as the blinker signal.

I ran into a thread last night here while I was looking for fog light aiming info and someone mentioned using the 7440 bulbs in the front for this same effect. I should have noted the link.

Right now, I think this is our best bet so we don't have to modify the 7444na bulbs.

EDIT:

Stealth Bulbs doesn't made a 7444na, but they do make the 7440na. This is awesome news as now, not only is the amber gone, the egg yolk effect is gone too. Those bulbs are expensive though, but I think they have a lifetime warranty.

Wow just saw this. That's my car lol. It actually happened by accident. Bought switchbacks. Dropped one and it stopped working.

Basically what I did was tape off the connection point on the bulb that powers the parking light. It takes trial abs error but won't take more than a few mins once you have the fender liner Out.

Pm me for any questions
