35w to 55w is a big no-no, right?

I'm wanting to change my front fog lights (13 coupe) to a yellow PIAA or soemthing similar. All I see in H11 is a 55wx2=110w!!! type advertising.

The H11 that are in the car are 35w, so I'm pretty much guaranteed to have a distortion/meltdown issue aren't I?

You can get upgraded wiring harness. I used 55w bulbs in my stock harness once (different car) and it melted.

More watts equals more current equals more heat equals wiring system not designed for it equals problems.

I tried 55w once with cheap ebay ones and they would come on and go right back off within the minute, so went back to my 35W

We don't carry 55 watt kits because of how much hotter they run.

Your chances of melting your housing and damaging expensive factory components goes up exponentially when using 55 watt over 35 watt.

Admittedly, the 55 watt kits do have more output, but it's not worth the risk IMO

I looked up the bulb specs in the 2013 Coupe Factory Service Manual, and the table shows H11 55W for the fog lights... so why is 35W recommended? Is the manual incorrect? Thanks.

Thanks but I was asking about the discrepancy regarding the wattage. It seems 35W is recommended but the FSM states 55W.

Wattage and LED

I was under the impression that a 60w equivalent LED ran about 13 watts. Maybe I am miss understanding.

I'm pretty sure they are talking about the 35w HID kit recommended over the 55w hid kit. The manual is correct stating that the OEM fog light is a h11 55w bulb. 35w hid kit vs 55w halogen is not the same as what you're thinking (35w halogen vs 55w halogen).

Oh ok, I didn't realize they were referring to HIDs. It sounded to me like the OP said the car came with H11 35W from the factory. My mistake. Alrighty, so I'll be ok with aftermarket 55W halogens, thanks.

I'd recommend going with 35 watt, just my .02

Let me know if you need help with an HID kit. Our 3000k ones look awesome IMO

Do you mean you recommend using 35w HID vs staying with 55w halogen, or are you saying to use a 35w halogen? I just want to make sure I understand this clearly because I read elsewhere that the wattage between the bulb and ballast should match. Thanks.

I don't have any advice on halogen bulbs, we don't carry any and I think most aftermarket ones are either overpriced or overrated

You can mix and match HID bulbs with different ballasts, but the 55w ballasts decrease the lifespan of the bulbs quite a bit IMO
