Tiny led light by map lights

At the risk of sounding like a jackass, I was just wondering what this light is. I had to turn the left map light on so my phone's camera could see it. I did a search here and found nothing. I also checked the manual and it shows a picture of it but doesn't mention it. It turns on with the parking lights\headlights, it appears to just shine down on the shifter and cigarette lighter compartment but I don't see why. With the map lights off its not bright enough to do anything

Just like you said, it just shines the area of cigarette department and shifter. If you use your finger and cover the light, you will notice that whole area will get very dark. IMO , I think it's simply for aesthetic purpose.

It's an ambient light that's on whenever the headlights are on. That's it.

Think of it as a night light. Say for instance it's a dark night and you can't seem to find the ash tray/cig lighter, the light shines right there so you can see it....

its just an accent light. my wife's car has orange ones that create a little glow in the cabin at night.

Hey "Jack" it looks like you are not alone...I would have preferred if Infiniti went a step (or two) further ambient lighting on the doors. The new S-Class has colors that you can choose from, but that car has about 1300 LED's all over the car (including the headlights). But for in excess of 90 large, I would not expect less.

You don't get to it. Infiniti didn't intend for you to mess with it. It's not designed to be user serviceable.

So ... you just joined and you decide to shout at people on a thread that hasn't been updated since August 2013?

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I sit so high in the seat, that I never saw it from the drivers side. Had to go in the garage and turn on my lights and lean over so I could see it.

many people refer to that little light as the "ambient light".

it shines on the shifter and ashtray area, BTW.

After this thread I had to do and look at this so called ambient light. Not really very useable, ain't it? I rather shine LEDs thru GT-R lenses.
