Getting my brakes done. Shop asked me if I want to paint my calipers red. But I don't have bbk think I should leave it stock silver?

Red calipers demands a disproportionate amount of attention, whether you've got a BBK or otherwise. And if you don't have the BBK, then it's completely unwarranted attention, IMO. Kia paints their calipers red for the Optima SXL, but they're the same little brakes as the base model, and it looks absolutely ridiculous on an otherwise appealing looking sedan.

You're better off painting them in a neutral, clean color, like silver, gray or black.

Better yet, Gunmetal. Actually, that would look pretty good in Gunmetal.

Agree with Rochester. I'd like to get mine painted a nice red, but my car is (Malbec) black, with black wheels, the BBK, and red seats, so I think it'd look sweet.

 

I have a tentative, unformed plan to paint my BBK in a light metallic, amber/orange for my Moonlight White 6MT. Something gentle with the contrast, so it compliments things without taking over.

I still think a Gunmetal color would look good on standard brakes.

Yeah I just went with silver.

 

That's way too deep orange for me. But I have to say that powdercoating job looks amazing. It's like they were dipped. It looks like melted orange sherbet.

Powdercoating is the best most extreme approach, and means you have to rebuild the calipers. Given that I only have 13K miles on mine, I can't see going that route.

That guy sure is doing some interesting things with his mods, though. Subscribed, and thanks for the tip.

 

On my non-g, I painted the small brakes a matte black. Made it look cleaner, hid some rust, but did not bring any attention to them.

 

Looks good, don't care for red myself regardless of caliper type unless it's part of a theme maybe.

 

I have painted my last 3 cars calipers silver.
It just makes them look nicer than the dull grey metal.

 

I'd say you made the right choice, they look great.
