License Plate LEDs

The white LED bulb mod for the license plate is way better than the stock yellow bulbs - with one caveat ...

The light appears too bright especially since there's no buffer between the bottom of the plate and the ground. I have the wled-x5s from SBL, which are only .3 watts and 15 lumens. Most wedge type LEDs are brighter even, and I still think these need to be toned down just a bit. Subtle is good.

Has anyone used frosted glass spray paint on the bulbs directly, the lens housing, or even both to diffuse the light and make it less intense? I know that black electrical tape can be used to blackout part of the lens as well but rather try something more refined.

Thanks.

I have these in all my cars and IMHO they are just right, brighter than stock, nice & white but not too bright.

^^^ Those are still going to be very bright.

I would recommend our stage 1 which is just one 5050 chip (compared to 5 chips in the bulbs both of you listed). It provides just enough illumination without being too bright at all. 2008-2013 Infiniti G37 Coupe License Plate LEDs (pair) - G37 Coupe - Infiniti - HID & LED by Vehicle - Replacement Lighting

Here is a pic showing the effect. You can see it is slightly dimmer than the factory bulb but still has that nice look.

The VLED ones are not too bright (see below) .... a little salesmanship from DD over VLED. I have outfitted 6 cars with LED's from VLED and never had a single problem FWIW My biggest grip with DD is no kelvin ratings and as you can see, blue tint. VLED offers 5K and you can see it's white, no rice blue tint.

I wound up using Rustoleum spray frost on the bulbs and the whole bulb lens housing. It looks fri**ing awesome. My one colleague said he didn't know that the new infinitis have the white license plate lighting. When I told him that they don't and I did, he said it looks stock. The frost disperses the light and eliminates the void in between the two lights. I'll have to post a pic later.

Any stage you purchase from us makes a big difference over stock lighting. One of my favorite upgrades considering how easy it is.

Im trying to figure out what color (white or warm white) from DD will be adequate to 5k from VLEDs because I dont want any blue tint as 2008G-Man mentioned before and if one of the two from DD turn out to be adequate to 5k ( pure white) then I'll either go for stage 2 or 3 ..

Why not just go with 5K bulbs from V-LED? You know they will be white with no blue.

That's exactly what I'm gonna do although I'm gonna go with these I have found sometime ago

5K WHITE 4 LED 2W HIGH POWER BULBS 194 168 158 | 1 PAIR

The only reason why I was asking was because V-LED's website wouldn't work for me for some reason before... Thanks though

I have super bright ones and prefer it because it shows more visibility on the road for everyone. I don't see any issues with the bright ones. Otherwise they look cheap if they are not bright. I see the semi bright ones beside my car sometimes and the others look cheap and IMO I just don't like looking cheap on a sixty thousand dollar car.

Try Amber LED's for the plate lights. Works for me.

I've used those for other things ... they are pretty bright and very directional. Don't think they would work very well and might be too bright.
