My suggestion if that possible of course find a better body shop... if it is 4th time these guys wont do better...

EFX the only thing comes to my mind is 2k grit sand paper they used to sand the clear down and then buff/polish it, or possibly repaint the door again...but that makes no sense why would you re blend unless they screwed so bad...

 

I've ran into this problem about a year ago. Well the first thing is to get the paint code, and the "special mix" that Inifiniti does. That's one reason why service king can't get it spot on. It kind of stupid but many higher echelon car companies do this.

 

There is no "special mix" for this color... It's a solid white basecoat, with a transparent midcoat with white pearl applied over the white to get this effect.

Simply put whoever is painting this color simply cannot do a tricoat color properly.

They need to do a spray out card of base white, then apply one pearl layer to the whole card. Then 1/3 of the card needs masked off revealing the last 2/3 of the card. Another layer of pearl needs applied to the 2/3rds that's left. After that is dry, another 1/3 needs masked off, and a final layer of pearl applied to the last part of the spray out card. Once that is done you remove the masking and you will have 3 different color pearl whites.

It's card is a gauge to show you how to get the color right.

I will make you a spray out card tomorrow at work and if you want me to I'll even clear coat it and SHIP it to you.

 

Well i had very little time today. This was about 2:30 and it was close to a wall so couldn't get too far back. More pictures to come. At 5:22 ish it is most noticeable.

Here im comparing F/L door + side skirt w/ the F/L fender

Fender to bumper. Here they ''blended'' with the fender (F/R)

Third time i went in they said they blended the whole left door with a new clear coat with the fender. Now i feel like thats BS but now im seeing a diffidence between my back left fender and my left door can you see this or is it just me?

i think u need a light, maybe a yellowish light to show the colors, its hard to tell from the pictures provided.

 

If you want me to take pictures while using a certain method let me know. A light source to differentiate the colors.

 

Yes do that. When they "blend" that the base white needs to.be on the WHOLE fender and blended a good bit onto adjacent panels so you dont see that color flop between panels

 

I just got my front bumper repainted through Sewell Infiniti. I have a Ivory Pearl coupe and they just painted the front bumper and I could see a two tone from bumper and fender. They told me that white varies on what it is painted on since my fender and hood is metal and the bumper is plastic. Also they said that wit the sun, the color will be faded and blended. They told me if I wasn't satisfied after 6 months, they would respray it for me. So far is getting there. I'm satisfied.

 

They told you 6 months in the hopes you would forget and they wouldnt have to fix it.. i worked at a shop years back that pulled that bs. If you pain a bumper a the same timr as you do the fenders to bend the color will match. I sprayed an acura tl yesterday rear quarter panel blend to door, and rear bumper corner. Matches just fine. Dont let the shops take advantage of you

 

Okay so heres around 5:30 at night i believe its more noticeable.

 

So tomorrow im taking it to Infiniti Sewell there going to take a look and repaint if they think they can do better. So my question is at this point what 'should' they do. Do they need to completely repaint 'aka take off the base coat' or is it as simple as a clear coat.

 

Lol it seems the same to me...I don't see anything wrong with it. I know how you feel, that car is your baby and you want everything perfect about it but your eyes are just playing tricks on you...or it's my eyes lol. Looks good to me.

 

The fender is CLEARLY a bluer white than the door, and a-pillar.

The door and a pillar were NOT blended at all dude sorry to say, take this **** back to them and have them repaint because that is UNACCEPTABLE.


If it was blended there wouldn't be such a drastic change in color. That's the dead giveaway.
