Question Alternative to Window Tint for Sun Glare

My kids have been complaining about the glare of the sun and so the wifey has been asking for me to tint the car. I live in Cali where tint is only legal on the rear windows...I would hate to make my car look like a limo with dark tint in the back and nothing up front.

I figured that a compromise may be some sort window shade for the rear side windows. I have a Honda Odyssey that has pull up shades integrated into the sliding doors. I'm hoping to find something similar for the G that still looks good. I hate the suction cup versions of these things...so those are out of the question. So far this is all that I could find...it ain't great but seems to be the best option so far:

Any thoughts? Thanks!

I have 35% up front on all 3 cars in my garage and have never had any issues with the cops. But if you absolutely want to play it safe, you can get a very light tint (50-70%) and do a 35% tint in the back. One of my friend has 50% and his is way better than my tint, but he paid big bucks for his so it better be good haha.

Do you have it on your windshield as well or just on the front side windows?

I have no tint on the front windshield. Front windows 35% and back windows + windshield 20%. If you happen to get pulled over for something else then the officer will mark down everything including tint, front plate, all of that. But you can always just lower your front windows all the way down as soon as you get pulled over. The cop most likely won't ask you to raise it back up. But if you're pulled over FOR tint, then you're screwed. But honestly 35% isn't that dark, but 50% is on the safer side. 70% is basically almost clear.

Just buy them all some non-designer polarized sunglasses from a local sporting goods store. It will save you a lot of money and potential trouble.

How I wish there was an OEM solution. Acura seems to have exactly what I'm looking for...how I wish it existed for my G:

3M crystalline - get the 70% one: block as much heat as conventional dark 20% tint
also reduces glare
you can even tint the front windshield with 70 or 80 or higher %, since they are pretty much clear

onyl down side is they are very expensive

Lol - All you do is remove the tint and have a officer sign off on it. The "ticket" is literally the cost of replacing the tint. Here in NC that is rather cheap, but when I lived in NY it could get very pricey.

I hate being pulled over for anything and would prefer avoiding the fix it ticket all together. I'll have to check this option out. Thanks!

------------

I take that back!! I just got quoted $850 for 3M Crystalline on 4 windows + the rear!!!!! That fix it ticket is starting to sound much more palatable!!! =P

I heard off of here (still have to get it checked out), that if you get some prescription that you are sensitive to light or your eyes are or something of that sort, you can get away with tints.
But you'd have to speak with a doctor/cop to clarify, I just haven't gotten to that yet.
