Whats with stock high beams being NOT bright?

I very seldom drive this car (its my wifes), but tonight was out on a dark back road and hit the high beams on and...well...They are pathetic! One of my 40 year old muscle cars with stock sealed beam headlights are brighter.

The low beams are fine and light up the area ahead very well but you flick the high beams on and wow what a disappointment. The lit area from low beams is still lit up the same but area other than that is pathetic and hardly noticeable difference over low beams (and yes they are working...LOL). Whats up with these POS stock high beams? Im not changing anything as my wife will never use em anyway and this is the first time they have been on probably since car was new but just wondering...

What? Really? Maybe you have a fluke car. I find the low beams on my 2011 pretty darn bright, bright enough to where I wnder why they put high beams on it.

sometimes i feel the high beams arent bright, but after sitting in some other vehicles, i love my high beams. idk how much more light output they could legally put out without breaking some regulation. only way i think you could get better high beams is to either get HIDs for the fog lights and use them as a high beam (i personally used to have that, but took it out as i would get flashed every time i drove by someone) or you can upgrade the stock lenses to much clearer lenses like the TSX or something along those lines.

on a side note, 800 rwhp on the z06? is that a daily driver? lol must be fun

I think the low beams are so bright that when you click the high beams on, the change isn't very noticeable. All it does it maybe illuminate 20 degrees higher.

ehhhh, did you guys know that our high beam is the same bulb from the low beam? it's not any brighter when you flick on the high beam except when it's turned on a door on the projectors opens up and widens the lighting beam.

^ This, too. That's what "Bi-Xenon" means when you're looking at your car specs.

Exactly right he is! The normal lighting on our G's is pretty amazing. It's very bright, sharp and wide, and it's the best lighting I've seen from any stock car, and I've driven lots of HID-equipped cars. Even Bimmers can't compare in that fact to us. I've driven 2 different 335i's and their light was horrible normally as compared to ours. That is why you don't notice too much of a difference with high beams, because our low beams are already so fantastic.

Cutoff isnt very sharp, hence why folks switch out to tsp projectors.
I Don't have a problem with the brightness of high beams

The bi-xenon on Infiniti's are awesome, I really dont understand how you say yours are weak. I remember when I had my G35 Coupe, I could light up entire highway signs with the flick of the stalk and the entire sign would light up as if it had its own light source. Amazing

I do notice my 6000k's bring a much more noticeable change when I hit the high beams, but YMMV.

Exactly what I am seeing. It just moves some light about 20 degrees higher but not much light output from them.
Like I said the low beams are very bright and I like them and dont really need high beams but just an observation. I guess I assumed they were 2 different bulbs.

Is your (wife's) G equipped with AFS? I'm wondering if this makes a difference...

I don't have AFS, and I really have no compaints about the high beams. The low beams are great to the point where the high beams only need to add that extra little bit on top...
