I'm looking to get some work done this spring/summer... got a quote from the place I got my bodywork done last year.... I honestly think it's a bit high.. but just wanted opinions from the rest of the forum...

They quoted me $600 for removal and painting (not powdercoating) of the akebonos.... and about $500 for painting the roof...

I'm almost 100% sure that everybody here will say that it's too much and that's a ripoff.... but these guys do top notch work and are perfectionists to a T.... but that being said... I still don't know if I can justify paying that much for "minor" mods...

Side note.... not looking to get a roof overlay, and wouldn't be opposed to powdercoating.... but all opinions are welcome

 

Not sure about the roof, but 600 is a decent amount of loot fur brakes. My buddies round here get them done for a couple hundo less. But again location could be a big factor. If they do top notch work and you trust the people doing it and you have the cash, do it. You can always ask them to do it for a lower amount. The main key in my opinion is it is done right.

You can have your calipers powdercoated by the best around for $350.

I"m not sure if it makes a difference because your car is a vert, but I wouldn't pay $600 to get my coupe roof painted. Maybe it's more difficult on a vert or something but it sounds way high.

 

Alshubcaps does it for $140 and Ig0r does it for $400 and we know Ig0r does some pretty good work.

 

Yeah, those prices seem too high for just painting the calipers... even if they remove it and paint. Powdercoaters would do the same and cost less than that.

But if you're a perfectionist and trust them to deliver top notch work, then I guess it would be worth it.

 

Why not powdercoat? I am sure you will like them more in the long run. I dun see the point of paying so much for something that don't last (i believe the paint chips if like, say, a rock chips on them at high speed). I think powdercoating is the way to go for something that are so prone to chips...

 

Send them out to czp (if you have anothe car to drive) and they powder coat for 350

 

You guys are missing one major factor... the installation. It shouldn't be more than $200-250 to paint the calipers if you hand them to a painter, but if a shop has to remove them, then reinstall them.. expect to pay $$$

We charge $400 but we do it on the car, every square inch, and every screw is masked off, you won't find a tiny bit of over spray, and includes a decal of your choice. Of course removing the calipers is also an option, but its obviously more.

Depending on the shop, painted roofs go from $250-800. The job that was done on my S4 was around $700 because the paint line was sanded, cleared and blended to the rest of the car so you can't feel it.

Since you don't have a sunroof, and the part of the roof youre painting is in 2 pieces, a shop should be able to paint it and clear coat the entire 2 pieces so you don't feel the edge for no more than $450-500, given it's a very reputable shop.

 

I dunno I guess prices must be different in different locations.

thanks for the input guys.... I know for a fact that removal and installation costs more... but unfortunately I live in an apartment with no garage to do any of my own work...

decisions decisions....
