"HELP" 6000K HID Problems

This evening I installed 6000k bulbs and I am having problems with them turning on right away when they are cold.

My headlights will remain off when i first turn my car on. Only if I turn them on and off multiple times will they heat up and stay on.

I have no idea what it could be

I have a 2011 G37 IPL

Interesting. I'm assuming you weren't having this issue prior to the bulbs? What brand? I'm no expert here, but if BOTH are doing the same thing, and the units are firing up immediately with engine start up/auto, it's likely the bulbs? Then again, if your bulbs are somehow drawing more power than your previous bulbs (which wouldn't really make sense since it's the ballast's job)...that could land you in your situation? Then again...they should at least flicker? Try throwing in your old one back in, on one side.

Keep us posted.

I have never had this issue before. This is my second set of bulbs. My 1st set where the Philips and i was having the same issue.

At first i thought it was the bulb too. So i bought a second set and its doing the same thing. When i put the old ones in they work fine.

That's really weird. I honestly can't think of a reason why. Your bulbs draw power from the ballast - the ballast has a given voltage that it takes away from the battery. If it works on your OE bulbs, then it shouldn't have any sort of issue with your other set. You sure you bought the right set? D2S...?

My experience with new bulbs is that it takes some time to get them to light up at first. After using the new bulbs for a few weeks, they start turning on faster.

I've had new bulbs since October and the driver side one rarely turns on at the start up. It wants to but for some reason doesn't get enough power initially. Strange, but that is what's happening. I have swapped bulbs so I know that isn't the issue, one thing I haven't done though is swap ballasts from side to side to test that way. Most likely, the ballast is supplying enough power during the initial "kick" on of the engine.

Here is a thread in which my situation, and others' is discussed more.

Did you guys pay under $20 on eBay for your bulbs? If not only thing I can think of is to check the connection and how they are sitting.

I paid 10 dollars for my 6000k bulbs on ebay and I haven't had any issues with them for the 7mths they've been on my car. No problems firing up on startup. Not sure why you guys are having issues. I had this same issue with my Maxima. Could be faulty ballast but i really doubt that especially since the factory bulbs work fine. All i can think of is to make sure you guys are getting D2S bulbs and not D2C. D2C bulbs work universally for both D2S and D2R. Maybe the d2c doesnt have a good enough connection like a regular d2s bulb will have. Ill post pics to show the difference.

Yeah sometimes you can get a good deal, but not always.

Just search eBay for D2S 6000k and then sort by lowest price. There are plenty.
***I am not responsible for you being unhappy with the quality you receive for saving $40. :P***

Many people are having this issue. This is turning into a common issue when using aftermarket bulbs on the 2010/2011 G37s.

I found a thread on a G35NYC, just Google "2011 g37 sedan hid aftermarket replacement problem" and you'll see it.

Igor from 180 Custom is currently testing different bulbs to find a solution to this issue.

Regards,
Tony

We used to think it's crappy quality HID bulbs, but have come to the conclusion it's something with the new G37s, especially the sedans. We have now tried 5 different brands of HID bulbs on our customers cars and they all have the same problem with not turning on sometimes. It's always only one side too.

Currently testing the Philips 6000K bulbs ($100+ set!!) and we are still hitting the same problem. Maybe it's all a plot by Infiniti so we don't put in aftermarket bulbs

Thanks,
Alex
