Chrome Trunk Lip Sandblasted?
Chrome Trunk Lip Sandblasted?
I want to paint my chrome trunk lip, but half of the paint shops are no bidding the job and the other half are bidding with no warranty. I told each of them that it's plastic chrome and not metal chrome, but they're saying that the job will eventually peel. I think all that's needed is some good prep work.
Should I get my trunk lip sandblasted before I send it to the paint shop? Will sandblasting round off the sharpness of the Infiniti lettering, I don't want that. Is there another process, like acid or chemical, that will remove the chrome finish?
Better yet, does Infiniti sell a painted, unchromed version of the trunk lip? Has anyone done this before?

you dont need to sandplast the chrome trunk piece, you can just sand it down with a heavy grit, then smooth it out with a fine grit, ( i can get you the exact grit sand paper i used), then primer, paint and clear coat it. I did it at home, the most time consuming part is sanding, and waiting in between coats.
since this is the back of the car, you wont get rock chips and it wont start to peel. remember, preperation is key. sandblasting can be too harsh for plastic, it is generally used on metal pieces.
if you decide to do it yourself, lemme know and I can give you details.
