I'm just wondering if anyone has done that. I'm not talking about the middle of bottom grille. If you have sport, both bottom side OEM grills are closed. Injen CAI filters are right behind the grills. would making some holes on grills help CAI?? I'm just wondering..

I've seen people take the closed piece off and install their own mesh for airflow.

 

Yeah and someone may have dremelled them out too.

I am sure Gregg has drilled his.

 

Not a good idea for rainy days.

Where did you by yours from?

 

Here in FL, I don't plan to since it pours when it rains. It San Diego, it may not be as much of an issue, but I still wouldn't want to risk it. Besides, the water will only pool up and deflect off the plastic wheel well protector that wrpas behind and under the Injen CAI filters...unless you plan to cut some of that off too.

The air is still fairly cool down there anyways (compared to the rest of the engine bay), so you're still benifiting.

Want to do this... Coupla questions:
Are these truly bolt ons??? I don't have to move water resi's and crap right?

Do ya really need the water sheild, doesn't look like they are too low...

Description of the Hydro shield from Injen:
Basically, this is good for some extra added comfort, but your car still needs to breath. It'll probably help against some road spray, but all it takes is one large puddle of water and you're done. Not worth the resulting repair bill IMO.

Just another option...if you are in an area that hardly gets any rain for most of the year, I might take it out when it's not raining and put the covers back it in during the short rainy season. I'm not sure how easy/hard it is to take out tho...




It's bolt on (ie, not cutting/drilling/fabricating like I hear you have to do with the Stillen 3 CAI). But you do need take off the front bumper to install everything. You also need to bolt on the new resivior that they provide in the package. There is no way the CAI will fit with the stock resi on that side.

I have never done this type of work before and I found it pretty easy. There is a great video with some hot chicks doing the entire install ...just search for it. I think it was a video by Injen themselves if I remember.

 

I think we need a new forum for people who like to drill holes in their car.

 

actually the injen cai does sit pretty low, especially if you lower your car

 

you should drill it if you have cai and the intakes sit there....ur intakes won't suck up water unless the entire filter is submerged into the water....it won't harm the filter if it gets wet....it'll just get dirty faster...
