Tinting back Tail Lights?
When i bought my car, mine were already tinted, but it looks like its a film over the tailights, and im not sure on the cost but im sure it cant be too much. On ebay tint goes up to 30$ so if you can do your own tint work you can save alot of $$
I was going to get BlueBat's GTR style taillight overlays (film) for $45. changed my mind and I somehow ended up with the eBay ones for $25.
Just had it installed by a local tint shop 2 weeks ago. Took the guy about 3 hours to do it and had to cut and and trim here and there to make it right. I ended up paying $60 for the install. But he did do good job and I'm happy with it

You can get some stuff called Nite Shades off of ebay for like 9 bucks and a can of clear coat.
Use Night Shades until you get your lights as dark as you want them and then a few coats of clear coat.
You will need to sand and buff to get them shiney, but they turn out way better than overlays IMO. There a bunch of youtube videos on how to get your clear coat shiney.

so i am looking to tint my tail lights and i have called a couple places and this is what they said. the first place said they have never done or heard of many people painting their tail lights. they said they take the tail lights off and spray them with something then apply some sort of film/tint over the lights. The second company which i trust and got my windows tinted there said they paint them and match the paint with the color of the car. I have heard painting them looks cleaner and holds up better in the weather. Whats the best way to go i need some advice from people on here that have them done. Thanks.
I was planning on buying Blue_batmobile's GTR style taillight overlays for the g37.
But I've been reading about how painting them looks better and lasts longer.
I'm kinda afraid of messing up while installing the overlays...so I think I'm just going to paint them myself. My question is....instead of putting 2~3 equal coats throughout the whole taillgihts....can I put more coats of tint around the edge to make the center of the taillights less dark? I want to do a GTR style, but with paint.

This!! I had tinted tails....then everybody else caught onto it and every piece of **** on the road now had tinted tail lights. It def lost its appeal to me. I like to have unique mods....so i invested in some JDM tail lights. Much better!! The red tails just make the car keep that classy look considering all the other aggressive mods.
180 customs is now offering painted tails, i read on their tail light thread in the vendor section that they just got stencils in. imo, the way stoof got his done looks the cleanest.
there are 3 ways to tint/darken taillights
1. tint film - also known as overlays or tint you'd get put on windows. requires someone pretty knowledgeable with the material since its difficult to get just right. needs a lot of stretching and repositioning.
2. tint spray - most used in Night Shades i think. great stuff, but requires prepping the surface very well and then adding a clear coat after and then buffing that out to make it shiny. a friend of mine tinted with night shades his taillights without any prepping of taillights nor any clear coat after. it was done last year, he put on 3 coats. now it looks fainter than even one coat of night shades, so this stuff does wear off if not applied properly.
3. paint - gives a defined look. with paint, no light will show through so its not a good choice to get the entire taillight painted. getting patterns done like the gtr look comes out the best though, since the light only shines through the tailight where paint is not.

Hey guys, I've painted a bunch of tail lights in the past with actual automotive paint. I've done tinted, and even color-matching tails. I have a automotive painting background, so I was able to mess around and get the right mixing ratio for the colors. All I did was to mix whatever color I needed and over-reduce the color to make it really transparent. Then spray amount of coats to get darkness I wanted, then clearcoat with automotive grade clear. Most collision shops or individuals with painting backgrounds can do this. This is very durable and can even be buffed and waxed along with vehicle.
