i am about to get some tinting done to all of my windows- is this a problem with the g37 since the windows automatically go up and down in that it won't allow the tint to dry properly? and does the fact that we have auto windows which move every time shorten the life-expectancy of the tint job (assuming it's done well and up to standards)?

 

I had a tint guy I asked say the up/down will be OK for drying, etc ....he did say the the pillar-less window will probably develop some peeling over time. Get the life time warranty tint and they will just redo the window if/when that starts to happen.

This is because if you have a pillar, that's what you usually grab to close the door but without your hands are usually on the window edge somewhere.

 

I had no issues with the tint on my 04. The tint shop just ran the heat gun over the edges a few extra times to help it dry before I even left the place.

 

I just had my windows tinted yesterday. I actually had mine done with a contractor out of my local dealer who has tinted a lot of the G's. He taped the switch on the bottom of the door jam which controls the interior lights and the auto up feature on the windows. I was advised to keep this on for the first day and then remove it. I still need to wait 2 to 4 more days before I actually roll the windows all the way down. By doing all this, it is supposed to ensure a good life on the tint but I also have a lifetime warranty in case it doesn't.

 

No problem with mine, tint has been on since the end of December.

 

interesting idea on taping the trigger for the lights/door sensor- i just wonder if it could be dangerous to the window if it *doesn't* move up or down- i mean is it really necessary to insure it doesn't crack, or does it just make for a better seal for water purposes only. anyway- thanks for the input.

 

A proper tint shop will use a heat gun to dry and seal the tint.

 

Just make sure it is a good place and there is a decent warranty. I had no problems.

 

Had my G done and my sons 2010 Mustang Gt they both have the windows that move on door open /close. The guy at my shop said no problem a lot of cars have this now , they just use a heat gun to be sure the edge is dry. and dont roll it all the way down for 48 hr

 

When I got mine done last August, my tint shop guys said a lot of frameless windows do this auto roll up/down when you open the doors. I remember him saying there was a screw in the door or door sill that deactivates the system and leaves it all the way up. It is there specifically so they can do the tint (or any window maint. too).

I also wasn't supposed to roll down my window for a week after it was put in (other than the small auto roll down when you open the door...you still need it to do that to get out).
