OEM Tint Percentages
OK, been reading up on tinting ....35% is legal for me in MD. Have read that a 35% tint will yield a lower overall percentage since the windows are factory tinted (to some degree). Does anyone know what the % of the factory windows actually are? My G is Blue Slate with Black interior so that will help some with the appearance.
Please no posts, "you should go with 20%, etc, etc etc ...." I want to stay legal to avoid hassles.

wow .... that's pretty dark. Was it a film? I'm talking just about the color aka tint) of the factory glass.

Factory windows might not be tinted in the traditional sense, but they do block some light transmission. The rule of thumb is that 70% gets through, so to stay at 35%, you can put on 50% film. I am in MD, too, and have been getting my cars tinted for 19 years.
I have recently used 40% huper optik, which is reflective but less "dark" and have had no problems with law enforcement even though it might not pass a light meter test for 35%.
(Didn't mean to bump this thread up, but thought I would chime in about the factory glass.)

I'm having tint put on my G sedan tomorrow monring. I am using 40% tint and the stock windows are already 74% (I had the guy measure it for me)...so I should be around 28-30% which while slightly below the legal limit...close enough!
