How do you deal with paint chips (metal exposed)???

So what's the best way to deal with paint chips that go all the way to the metal? I was driving on the freeway and a small nail got stuck on the corner of my tire and scraped up my fender (See pics below). Touchup paint? If I leave it as it is, would it eventually rust?

Thanks in advance!!!

I can't see the pics at work, but yes, if it is showing metal, it will rust eventually. Touch-up paint is probably gonna be the cheapest way to do it. Again, I can't see the pics, but if the metal is showing, I would also recommend getting a primer pen as well to cover that up, then touch-up paint. Just my .02

damn that is bad! you can cover it up with touch-paint but it won't looks as good as having the whole panel resprayed. But yea, cover it up somehow before it start rusting.

Thanks guys. I found a diy on driver on how to fix something like this, but I'm just not that confident in myself to be tackling this issue on my own. If anything, I'll just buy the touch up paint and have a shop apply it and wetsand it to make it blend. I just hope it wont cost more than $100. Respraying it would probably be the best, but if I can away with a shop getting near 100%, then I'll go that route.

how can you tell if the chip is pass the primer to bare metal on an OB? Is the primer in OB dark grey/blackish and the bare metal bright silverish?

nah just get it repainted. the touch up paint won't look clean.

either get it repainted now, or later, either way you're going to have to do it. you can probably get it done for a couple hundred, but it'll look WAY better than touch up paint.

Sorry to thread jack but while we're at the topic.

I have a very small paint chip on the side of the car (1-2 mm), right next to the top corner of the taillights. It already started to rust. What would be the best way to fix this? How would I prep it for a touch up paint?

have it painted and blended into the rest of your paint. Better to do it now rather than when your paint has aged... Also, what are you doing to have that type of damage so quick? Those are chips that is straight up paint being ripped off the car.
