clear bra in san diego

Hi,

I know clearbra questions have been asked multiple times. I searched the forum but couldn't find the answer I need.
I just got 2009 Infiniti G37 sedan - black. I was thinking about getting clearbra. However I heard that unless one does lot of highway driving, it's not actually necessary here in San Diego.
So I just wanted to ask the G37 owners of San Diego, have you ever felt a need to install clear bra or have regretted not getting one?
Also I've been quoted $850 for ventureshield - is tat a good price?

I hope to get some responses. Thanks in advance.

There have been many times on 805/163/5 that a clearbra has saved me from road rash especially when driving during heavy traffic. There will be no way for you to avoid a semi carrying dirt unless you either speed past it or stay a good distance back. Even then, debris can still barrage your car.

I have the full hood, bumpers and fenders done and couldn't be more thankful that I did it as soon as I bought the car. I think it was well worth the money spent on it because the front end of my car looks brand new. I know others will say that this is a $40k car and it's not worth it because it's not a (insert any car over $100K here), but I take pride in keeping my car well maintained.

Hope that helps. BTW let me know if you're interested in getting it done. I can refer you to the installer who did mine.

I'd like to know your installer. I got mine done at BumperDoc.. worst decision of my life, I'm never going there for anything ever again. They stretched the film out too much when they were putting it on so six months later is started wrinkling and having a completely different rougher texture compared to the rest of the car. Plus there are bubbles on the edges of the front lip. I'd like to get it redone because it really does protect your paint if you drive on the highway a lot, it's just such a drag when it looks like ****.

I'm glad I got mine done from day one as well. I've painted my grill black and it already has rock chips in it. The front of the car has none whatsoever. I'm **** when it comes to my car as well and try to keep everything as new as possible. Other G37's I've seen that didn't get the clear bra had rock chips like a motha! I can't stand chipped paint so I'd get it if I were you.

Hi all,

Thanks a lot for your response. I'm sure I'm going to get it done now ). I got a quote for Ventureshield full hood kit + window tinting for $1100. Is that a good price?

Thanks again.

What does the full hood kit include? I also forgot to mention, the longevity of your film is only as good as your installer. Your film could be the most expensive film on the planet and given the wrong installer, could only last you 1 week. Remember that the more times you try to reapply the film (stretching & manipulating), the thinner the film becomes and the more likely you are to see a tear in it. Think of trying to apply a piece of a plastic bag to some odd shaped object. Keep pulling at it and sooner or later it will give.

With tint, you'll want to make sure that they also use quality film. For one, I've had installers put in film they said was "quality". This so called "quality" film turned purple within a year and was a PIA to see out of at night. On the G, I did my homework on the company and films. The clairty at night is much better and it's reaching a year since I had it tinted. Still looks the shade it did when I bought it. Just an FYI.

argomova, shoot me a PM. I can give you his information.

Not sure where you heard that about film but it is very incorrect. Go with a good film and it will last... as long as YOU take care of it. You cant overstretch film to the point of tearing. Film is very durable and is VERY difficult to tear. If the installer is any good he will apply it properly and then its all on you at how long it will last. If you dont wash it and keep it clean then it will not last long. If you maintain it just as you do your paint (its better to use a sealant on it as opposed to a wax) then it will stay nice and shiny for a long time. I have been installing film for about 7 years and I have never had any problems with film going bad. But I give all of my clients a sealant to use on the film.

Hi,

Thanks to you all. I'm going to get it done this Saturday. And I'm going to get full-hood coverage (+bumpers, fender, mirror).
Any idea what kinda tint looks good in black G37 sedan? front will of course be 70%. What about rear and passanger windows? I know it's based on personal preference, but whats your preference

Thanks again,
Bikas

70%?? Are you sure you didn't mean 30%? 70% is basically letting 70% of the light inside the car. It'll look like you don't have any tint at all! Even 35% is too light for me.

I've got 20% all around and the back windshield is 15%. It's all up to you though. I've had 20% tint on every one of my previous cars so I'm used to driving at night with them. If you get a chance, hop in a car with tint and see how it is at night with them. HTH.

yeah.. 70%.. California law doesn't allow less than 70% in front windows right? I don't want to get pulled over for tinting... even though i'd luv to have darker windows
rite now i'm thinking of 70% front and 18% back... can i go lower than 70%?? btw i have black with black interior....

We should have a SD meet sometime soon. Up until now, we thought there were only 4 of us on the boards.

I'd also like to check out the work of your installer brgurung
