Infiniti AFS
can I start off by saying that this is by far the worst design ever imagined. Only one headlight turns depending on the turn and its delayed to the point where by the time your car is straight, the headlight is returning back to its position. My brothers 335xi adaptive lights are awesome as both headlights turn when turning and they are usually quick unlike ours. Or is there somthing wrong with my system? anyone else have this issue or hate their AFS as much I do? lol
I don't have AFS, but from what I understood, both of the headlights are supposed to turn into the turn. If it is slow to the point that it is annoying, I would take it into the dealership and have them check it out.
thats what I dont know about, are both headlights suppose to turn or just one?
This is correct. The left light only turns when you are moving forward. They have not disappointed me. They don't turn quickly becasue they aren't designed to. They are supposed to help a little bit when you are in a long sweeping turn, not for making a right turn at a corner. The lights don't move much at all to the left so as not to blind oncoming traffic.
all AFS vehicles... the Infiniti M, G sedan, G Coupe, G vert, '09-up FX's, EX's only move one at a time... 15 degrees to the left, 17 degrees to the right... both won't move b/c it doesn't need to.
they work fine to me, the purpose is for those dark exit/entrance ramps or dark lit intersections

maybe its my driving style where I take quick turns and etc, but for me they really dont do much. THey are nice to have, but I have never come across a point where at night I was like oh wow that really helped..and 75% of my driving is at night..
Yea, I know what you mean. I like that they do turn, but it is pretty much useless since only one of the headlights turn and on top of that, they turn pretty slow. I am still glad that Infiniti at least put this as an option. Hopefully they work on the design and improve them for the next generation.
they did not want them to turn too fast for a reason. Did you notice a lot of other models like BMW 3-series and Lexus IS's that have auto leveling headlights and AFS that get stuck after hitting bumps? I can't tell you how many cars on a daily basis I see have headlight issues. Maybe it's b/c cars take more abuse on the NYC roads than anywhere else in the country!
agreed, even though it loads up the car, my V1 wont shut the hell up when im behind cars and etc because of the laser..
but yea, auto-leveling and useless AFS really hinder this car..my brothers 335xi and his fiance's IS both have auto leveling and they make a huge difference. Perhaps the next models will be a little better
I guess i don't have a BMW or Lexus to compare it to, but it works just fine for me:

I had a BMW with this package and I actually like the Infiniti system better. You do not need both lights to turn. Always remember that BMW's are very expensive to fix. BMW couldn't care less what it costs the owner to fix a system like that. Heck BMW had the auto up/down windows years before any car maker. That motor costs about $800 to replace. The lights will most definitely be the same way. If you wanted the BMW things, should have bought the 3 series and you would have a few hundered less each month and less in your savings from the extra down payment. Even all the "great" things those cars do, I still cannot justify the price increase. I say, you pay the extra $10 - $15 grand and I'll save it for mods and vacations.
Thats a cool video, however at 3am driving home, im not taking turns like that even though the road I drive on has those very similar twisty turns, too many animals around. Yes my AFS works, however I feel it could be a better system.
