Will you take delivery of new G37x with a little paint chips...?

Greetings:

I just refuse a new 09 Blue Slate-Stone int, base G37x today due to a paint chip on the driver side door edge around the handle area. It's about .150"x.100" and you can see the gray primer underneath. Additionally, all 4 rims have some black grime bumps encrusted to the spokes that I can't remove using my fingernail. I love the BS-Stone combination; however, the other available colors are White pearl-Tan, Red-Tan, Blue Slate-Graphite. So, I have to take the delivery BS-G tomorrow. Or I can let the dealer repair the paint chip. What would you do if you were in this situation?

Thanks for your time and help.

for a new car? I would definitely refuse delivery on that one. If you are going to pay 40K plus for something new it needs to be pretty much flawless upon delivery.

Did you buy a used car? Have the dealer make it "show room new".

How many miles are on this supposed NEW car?? Sounds like there may be more issues than just paint --

do NOT accept this car...wait for another '09 to roll into the showroom.

No way. An issue with the wheels too? I have been waiting for 2 weeks for my GSx with less than 100 miles and no front lic plate bracket. I still have about another week to go but for 40k I want perfection!! Get another car.

If you can't let it go (I couldn't), then don't take it....or have them fix it if that is OK with you. If they have others on the lot, then have them swap the wheels with ones that are OK. That only leaves the chip issue...it can be fixed...and if you can accept it then just have them fix it before you take delivery. Good luck with the decision.

Agreed.....refuse delivery on that car. You're paying for "showroom new". Not, dinged as we were rolling it off the truck just like every other Kia on the lot. You're buying an Infiniti, a luxury car. A luxury car should be perfect on delivery.

Wait til another '09 comes on the lot or try falling in love with another one on the lot that's actually perfect (or damn close to perfect).

I got a paint chip in the hood by the time I drove my new car back home to NY from NJ. I am not sweating it. If you are gettign a great deal, its all dollars and cents.

Yeah but it was delivered to you with without them. What happens after you take deliver is not the fault of the dealer.

I wouldn't accept delivery. You don't have to buy that car, wait for another one.

I know what you're saying (I love the color combo BTW). Paint chips are clearly listed in the dealer delivery checklist, and they're supposed to fix them before you take delivery. If the chip is small as you implied, let them have it properly fixed and I'm sure you won't notice it. The wheels are another matter, so if they can't remove the black marks with clay or a cleaner they can easily swap them out.

The day after I took my car home I saw a chip on the lower driver's door edge. It was raining when I took delivery so I didn't notice it and I'm 100% sure I didn't hit the door edge on anything, but rather than debate with the dealer I bought a bottle of touch-up paint and I can't even see it now. Yes, the car should be pristine, so let them properly fix it. I'll bet you won't be able to see it once they're done.

Get it in writing that everything will be restored to new condition.

Hold the survey hostage. Remember, ONE bad survey can destroy a dealership's average for the quarter, and Infiniti WILL take away the franchise with enough bad surveys. The survey is a VERY strong bargaining chip. On the other hand, if they do follow through as promised, reflect the FINAL result on the survey, and let Infiniti know that you were taken care of.

I TOTALLY agree with this comment -- the survey is critical these days for these dealerships --

Hi
I am new to this site. Just signed a lease for a G37x fully loaded. Did not decide on the color. As you guys are more experienced, what is the best color combination for the sedan. My better half picked diamond graphite with stone leather inside. Your comments will be appreciated.

What does this have to do with paint chips on delivery? Who cares what others think of your color combination, it's your car. And why would sign a lease for a car they don't have on the lot?

Bingo. That is if you decide you just need that exact car. If it were me, I'd refuse delivery, take note of the VIN # in case they try to trick you, and wait until they get another one in pristine condition, as it should be.
