Cost of Painting 2 Panels

So some may of heard, a neighborhood Golden Retriever jumped up on the passenger side of my car a few weeks back. And ended up giving it a couple good scratches. Got a couple on the passenger door, and another on the quarter panel.

So I dropped it off last night to the body shop, and just got a call a few minutes ago with the total estimate. Roughly $980 to repaint and repair the dogs work, not including my rental car costs.

BUT.........................................I HOPE YOU'RE ALL LISTENING. The dog scratching my car is considered a Comprehensive Claim. So with a total bill of $980 + $40/per day rental car($280, estimating a week of downtime)= $1260.

If you all have been listening to my advice and lowered your comp. ded. you'd be in my situation. Out of a total cost of $1260, I'll be paying a whopping $25 dollars.

But good news I'll have the car back in a week. Got a decent rental for the down time, and the rest of the car will be treated to a good wax and polish. In 30 days or so I'll bring the car back and have the 2 repainted panels waxed and polished as well.

SO GO LOWER YOUR COMP. DED. NOW!!!!!!

I hope the panels will match in with the rest of the car.

How come you have to wait 30 days for it to be polished? When my mom had her bumper on her SUV repainted they polished it and wetsanded it one week later and one year later there was no problem at all. I understand that it needs to cure but that only applies to waxing and sealing or whatever.

I think he's referring to your insurance payment, not car payment. Although most of us pay every six months, I think he's just putting it in "monthly" terms.

Lowering my deductible from $500 to $100 only raises my payment $6 every 6 months.

Monthly payments would only be affected by about maybe $1 or $2. In some cases I've seen the total 6 month premium change only about 15 dollars. Mine was about $30 every 6 months, because I'm still considered a younger driver even at 26, I don't think my rates really reflect my driving.

Good advice. Maybe I'll look into doing this to fix my damn bumper scrapes from the valet incident. Thanks.

Too many comprehensive claims will make insurance go up more than a few dollars, will it not?

How come your insurance has to pay and not the owners of the dog?
