WTF Happened? My car was unlocked and the windows down!

So I go down to Laguna Beach today to work on a friends computer. Park the car on a nice street, get the disk drive out of the trunk and go in to work for about 3 hours.

I come out and push the unlock button for the trunk but the lid doesn't pop up. I push it again and nothing. Then I pull on it and it opens. I'm thinking that somehow I didn't close it right. So I put the box in the trunk and go to the drivers door. Then I notice that the window is rolled down and the door is unlocked. I get in to look around and see that the passenger window is rolled down too. Look thru the car and find nothing missing. Not that there is anything to steal except for some change and papers.

So what happened? The doors and trunk unlocked themselves and the windows roll down? Has anyone had this happen? I'm worried that it might happen again and I live in Long Beach, not the best of neighborhoods. Any thoughts?

you probably accidentally pressed the buttons on your keyfob, if you hold the unlock button, your windows will roll down

It probably happened while you were still in range.

The remote is basically an antenna (operating at 315mhz) so if you had direct line of sight to your car it's entirely possible you were still in range and not know it.

TIP to everyone: next time you're at a mall with a giant parking lot and you're one of those people who like to park the furthest away from civilization (to protect your car!) or you just can't find your car, try unlocking your car normally... if that doesn't work because you think you're out of range, hold the remote straight up and try again. Doing so should increase the range of the remote significantly!

I've heard of the chin method, too, but haven't tried that because holding it up works for me and I don't look as goofy as point it in my chin!
