Passenger seat rattle?

I did a search on this and wasn't bringing up what I was looking for, so if this is a common problem, I'm sorry to rehash it.

Had the car for all of 5 days. Today while city driving, I hear this annoying rattle. I look over and the passenger seat is vibrating to the beat of the noise. It doesn't feel like there is much play in the seat back, but I'm sure that's where it was coming from. Like if someone was sitting in the seat, you wouldn't hear it, but when it's empty on bumpier roads it's loud. Any tips?

Eliminate

Two things come to mind.
  1. Make sure it is not the seatbelt hanging down against the pillar. I keep that belt holder cocked up due to a rattle if it is allowed to hang.
  2. On my former car, I had to tighten the bolts that hold the seat to the car. The covers come off and the bolts are visable.

Lol. I hear it occasionally. Usually when I'm listening to music and driving over uneven pavement. I wonder if thats got something to do with it.

I am hearing a noise coming from the front of the car ... a very dull rumbling noise. it is so slight because the car itself is pretty loud. I hear the noise only when I am driving between 5mph to 40mph. When I am driving fast I do not hear it but when I am driving on bumpy roads I hear it even louder. The service people do not know what it is. They thought it was a bearing that they replaced...and one even told me that its the uneven wear of the tire that makes that noise when the car is in motion. Most people I asked cannot distinguish what noise I am hearing. Anyone with a similar problem?

Thanks guys. It was the seatbelt. Unknowingly, you killed two birds with one stone. Two days ago we brought home my wifes new Nissan Altima 2.5S Coupe (I hate to admit it, but I like the rear on the Altima Coupe better than my G37!). Yesterday my wife is complaining of rattling. Saying how the &#*&^$ car is one day old.... Honey, try the seatbelt thingee, snap it up. Bingo, happy wife!

Did have my first bad day in the G though. My first fill up.

I had the same problem a couple months ago. Poor engineering of the seat belt mechanism on Infiniti's part.

This is the only thread I've seen on a related seat issue, so it seems not many people are having to deal with it. Lucky me.

Anyway, my specific issue is a rattling/clinging noise coming from under the passenger seat. It happens when the car is vibrating just right. Most of the time when I rev to around 5k rpm the noise shows up. Also when I'm driving on uneven pavement on the highway it can cause just the right vibration. I read on some other forum that it might be the seat rails under the seat vibrating. Sounds like a good guess b/c the sound is very metallic.

Anyone else on here have any insight?

I've found that the overhead sunglasses compartment is what rattles in my G37. The spring in the hatch mechanism is not strong enough. If I do not have sunglasses inside it, I have to stuff it with a sock or a piece of cloth to exert some extra pressure on the hatch from inside the compartment. That does the trick.
