Sunroof related paranoia

Anybody else paranoid that completely opening the sunroof while driving (instead of just tilting it) will someday result in something nasty getting in the car and ruining the interior? things like bird poo, bugs, random litter?

I'm sure the chances of this happening are slim to none but i still refuse to do more than tilt it open.

Nope, if I use the sunroof I open it up completely instead of tilting it.

Well, I know exactly where you are coming from because i am completely neurotic about leaving the windows of my car open once I park it. Anyway, my dad is the same way and when he had his SL500 he always put the top up when he parked but the one time he didn't a bird crapped in the car. With a couple of wet paper towels it was gone, no harm done. If you are worried about being stopped at a light and having a bird crap on your head, then keep it tilted; otherwise put that sunroof to use!

I can relate!!

I'm really paranoid too!! However, I've been crapped on twice and the car without me in it, once.

1st time = In Audi sitting at light with the sunroof opened all the way (Bird pooped in my hair, thought it was a leaf 'til I touched my hair, then WTF!!!)

2nd time = In Benz slowing to a stop in a residential area stop sign, and as I came to a stop, PLOP!! Right on my forehead!!! Imagine the aim of that bird!! I think someone was in the car with me, but I can't remember. I do remember having a napkin in my hand which I used to quickly clean it up. Neither of the poop was that big. Thank God they were small drops!!!

3rd time = Benz sitting in lot with windows / sunroof down just washed too nonetheless. I was standing next to it and heard a really soft splat. Didn't think of it or anything til I reached back in the truck and saw that I got hit by a bird!!!

So yah I never leave the sunroof opened. Mostly tilted. I will open it though if I will be movn a lot without too many stops. I always worry about the feathered bombers!!!

I had a nut from a tree fall on me yesterday. I just closed it up after that. Spring time in Atlanta is such a shame. So beautiful and perfect temperature wise, but unfortunately the amount of yellow pollen flying through the air and it's tendancy to burn your eyes and accumulate EVERYWHERE inside your car and out force you to roll up the windows and close the sunroof during what would be the absolute perfect time of year to have them open.

I don't know what it is, but when I seem to actively try and avoid bird poop, the car gets it. However, when I'm not trying, nothing happens. I work at an airport and it has a lot of lets say really open space. Of all that open space how does a one inch in diameter poop manage to always zero in on my car!!! WTF you know!!!

Yeah I know, I've been told to play the lottery more considering my luck with washed cars and bird poop. I really should play more lottery and try my luck there. I do play, but as you've noticed I'm still not lucky with the lottery since I'm still trolling around on Infiniti, Audi, BMW, and Benz boards and still not on a Ferrari, Lambo, Bentley, or Porsche boards.

The problem is that you're actively trying to avoid it and they can sense that. Birds can smell sun roof paranoia better than sharks can with blood. The only way to solve this is to openly accept it and drive with your sun roof wide open.

I don't know why, but this cracked me up "I had a nut from a tree fall on me yesterday. I just closed it up after that."

Ahhh, haha.

the only time i'm paranoid is when I can't shake the feeling i've left it open after parking. i go out to double-check and 9.9/10 times it's closed.

^^lol, I do the same dang thing. I hate it. An auto lock would be a great feature if the intelligent key was not around.

They shouldve made the car warn you somehow if you shut off the engine and open your door if you sunroof is still open.

I left my sunroom open once and found that cotton looking stuff from flowers/weeds (that stuff that floats around to spread their seeds) in my car the next morning. Now I make sure it is closed when I leave the car. Still is on my mind when I open the sunroof just so I don't forget to close it.
