I've tried looking in the manual for whatever this is. Apparently this is "ambiance lighting" to see all the buttons on the middle console in the dark? And has anyone been able to toggle it off/on? It's a very tiny bright light, that's near the maplight, and is always on, even in the daytime. So what is this?

 

it's just an ambiance light. i didn't think it was on during the daytime. i figured it was interlocked with the headlights. i know of no way to turn it off, though i personally wouldn't want to as it does add to the ambiance. if i cover it up, things don't look as 'cool'.

I'll try to get pix later after work if need be. For some reason i didn't order any "ambiance" lighting package or w/e? well it DOES look good @ night tho

 

It's the little hole next to the right map light when the headlights are on.

 

This is not the optional dealer added ambiance lighting, its just a small led that kinda shines down on the console area, making it visible at night. I think its very classy. Our Jetta has same red leds.

 

I think it is just to light up the console...

Kinda strange....

 

i think it's for you to be able to read something in the car while driving (like an address or phone #) without having to turn on the big bright lights... which would arguably blind you at night...

I could be totally wrong, but I think it has to do with bluetooth being on....it's either that or the voice activation or something like that...hope this helps. It is on on my g37 as well...i'll try to find out for sure

 

^^^^ are you serious? It's a light, man!!! That's all it is! A light that lights up the interior so that you can see what you're doing inside (like ambient lighting)... Lexus has it, BMW has it and Mercedes has it... It has absolutely nothing to do with your bluetooth being on...

 

I had the same light in my 2004 350Z and I had no bluetooth. Its only a light guys, time to move on.

 

Acutally, its a spy camera which is required under the Pariot Act. Big Brother is watching!

lol, anyway, yeah, its just to light up the dash a little. Audi and VW have been doing it in red for quite a few years now. The TLs have had it in blue, and probably quite a few others.
