The website is a bit confusing as to what that bluetooth dongle does. Is is needed in order to have bluetooth audio on USB3 or is that just for hands free calling?

Thank you for your order and your post here! The Bluetooth Dongle is needed for both - hands free phone calls and wireless music streaming with GROM-USB3.
Note that the hands free can be excluded if needed - you can pair the phone only for wireless music streaming and the opposite.
