Recently bought a 2010 Coupe & had some Q's about the audio system. I've searched the forum but most info I've seen was for Bose upgrades. I don't have Nav or Bose..
Does this model have an amp? I checked the trunk around the spare & there only seems to be a XM box on the passenger side.
The rear deck has 6x9 Infinity Reference 9602i 300W 3ohm installed. Of course, I can't see what's in the door without taking it apart. Does anybody know what's installed? 6.5 full range & 1" tweeters?
It seems to be a 6 speaker setup. Any idea what the impedance will be for the fronts? Furthermore, What impedance does the entire system have if running off the HU or Amp?
In other posts i've read that the tweeters have cap filters & adapters are available for the lower door. The system is boomy, weak, hollow bass. anemic highs. Muddy mids. The whole setup runs out of gas and clarity at half power. (an adequate description stolen from another member)
Thanks..
I did just find this thread about a 2008 Coupe. Do you think my 2010 has the same small Blaupunkts? However he doesn't list the size..
And Absinthe says "In the base setup, the speakers are driven directly from the AV Control Unit." Must be the same for a 2010 right?
Below the window is a "click here to download a copy", which makes it easier to read the manual imo.
The first section of that book describes the base system 'without rear camera" (??) and it does look like the speakers are driven directly from the head unit.

Sorry, all my Infiniti experience has been on the Bose setups; I have no working knowledge of the base systems although the FSM that Skyline pointed you to wold be my first step
Thanks I checked the FSM.. My next question is how do I tell which wire is positive & negative in the front door after removing the connector from the stock 6.5? I have the passenger side taken apart and there's a blue & white wire.
Would a multimeter do the trick?? If so, What setting and what would I look for? Thanks. (I didn't see this info in the FSM either)
edit: I watched youtube for 2 ideas on how to ID the wires.
Thank you. I must not know how to read. I've only worked on the passenger right side so far and it was blue and white. Blue being positive according to my multimeter.
Huh. Sorry about that. Sometimes I find the FSM confusing... I took the above wire colors from the description on page 59 and 60 at the head unit. But on pages 74 and 75 where the speaker connectors are shown, the colors are the other way around between L & R.
Anyway, I believe you've correctly identified blue as + on your passenger side.
Fwiw, I’ve been researching various speaker systems for the coupe and the Sony 3 way kit is super cheap (like 399 or less) and I think all the speakers will fit where they need to go. They get reviews for the price. Just buy an amp, drop them in and good to go I think. That’s what I would do if I had non-bose. Get a 5 channel to feed components. Slap some alpines in the deck and power a 10” sub.
I went with JBL 6.5 components in the door. Decent upgrade without an amp. (amp maybe later) 5 times better with the highs than the stock tweeter. Had to create my own way to mount tho,
Just had to add NSB710 speaker adapter for the mid woofers and they bolted right on to the 10" bracket in the door. So far so good.
edit: I added silicon adhesive between the adapter & bracket for a more air tight fit. The JBL's came with a thin weather stripping for the seal between the woofer & adapter.
I just went through this same process not too long ago with my base G. I ended up using Infinity Reference speakers all around because they match the Ohm rating of the stock speakers (or get pretty close anyway) that way they would still get loud without requiring an amp. I then got a small powered sub that fit perfectly under the rear seat middle console and tapped it off the head unit wires. Sounds great and works like a charm, I may add in a small amp like an Alpine Power Pack at some point but this setup so far is phenomenal.
Here's the wiring diagram I used for tapping the head unit speakers for the sub:
2yrs later I'm looking at upgrading my Infinity Reference 9602i in the rear deck. They sound very muddled, No highs.. Then I noticed they have a capacitor attached to the + terminal... Is that to cut the highs so they're only a woofer?
I read another thread here and somebody said replacing these 6x9s doesn't make much of a difference. To test this I connected another speaker to the wire (bypassing the capacitor) and they still sound muddy.
What's up with this system? The JBL components up front sound very good...
I think those rear deck speakers are supposed to be full-range and are simply driven from an internal amp in the head unit, right? If you "fade" all the way to the rear and change the tone controls do you ever get any highs out of them? I also can't explain the capacitor you're seeing. There's no mention of that in the FSM. And online images that I find all just show a simple connector like below. Is this what your rear deck speaker looks like? I know this says Bose in small type so maybe it's not he same as your non-Bose system?
Mine are 6x9 so yes they look like that Bose but they are Infinity 9602i. They have the old skool quick disconnect (large&small) terminals. If I get a chance this weekend I'll take a picture of the capacitor. In case anybody's interested. They are driven by just the headunit.
Hey, I found a pic at Crutchfield. With capacitor. Must do some reading.. Are they aftermarket?
