For the past year I have been using the stock aux/usb system instead of Bluetooth as it’s always unreliable. Would the VL2 or the VLite upgrade the usb reliability? I’m at a point now where I don’t need anything fancy I just want to play music off my phone.

How does one switch from factory display signal to VLINE?

 

For NIS9VL2 VLine model, you enter the VLine mode by entering the USB mode of your stereo. In this vehicle, the VLine emulates the USB source. Factory USB will no longer be accessible, however you can use the VLine USB ports for the same functionality.

2. Can I install the system myself?
Yes, you can install the system if you have some technical ability. I have the VLite and was wondering if you had any advice to help with the static noise I'm getting.
Its only when I'm connected to the Grom. My radio doesn't have the static.

Question.
Can you shed some light on why the factory USB iPod port is problematic with this setup (I believe your comp cannot support as well).

I see that there is a work around which appears to be another cable/USB interface (does this plug into the existing port?): https://gromaudio.com/store/vline_ac...roid-auto.html

However, I'm not sure if Carplay is available via this add on, or, the ability to maintain the iPod USB drive interface.

I only use this port for charging and playing music/podcasts/books on tape, hacks into the VxWorks infotainment (i.e. the tire pressure add-on @MotorvateDIY created), etc. , so I have avoided these kits for years because it seems that the port is problematic and I have no interest in wireless Carplay or Bluetooth for music.

For 2013 G37 Sedan with factory nav GROM VLine VL2 / VLite VT2 system (NIS9 model) emulates factory USB function in your stereo. Therefore, the factory USB functionality will be lost as it will be replaced with the VLine VL2 / VLite VT2 system. you can use the factory USB port for CarPlay and Android Auto via USB if you will use this USB retention cable:

Can anyone comment as to whether there is truly a problem using their Grom with the factory USB retention cable? I’m just wanting as unobtrusive of a clean install as possible, and would like to avoid doing a cigarette lighter flush mount USB swap if there are truly no issues using the factory USB in the arm rest with the Grom and retention cable.
