Adding Subs and keeping 6x9s Active in Bose System

When adding two 10" subs and sub amp to the 2008 G37 Coupe Bose system is it worth the effort to keep the two 6x9s in the package shelf active? Does doing so add anything to the overall sound or would I be better off not using them and just using the subs alone?
Thanks, Sam

was wondering this, too. i have a powered sub with the 6x9's in place - when i get a chance, i'll unplug the 6x9's to see if i like the sound better that way ...

Are you running the sub off the HU wiring to the amp for the 6x9s?

yes, front preamp signal from the HU, before it hits the amp. originally had it tapped off the rear signal, but its kinda weak. get a bit more OOMF from the front signal.

Since the distance from the rear package shelf and the two 6" X 9" is over double the distance from the front door mounted mids, the rear speakers in the shelf and the sides of the rear seat do little to affect the imaging. Even with time correction from a processor, I found no reason to keep the 6" X 9's active other than the added fill. Depending on the speakers you choose, the amp you drive them with and the effectiveness of your crossover network, it will add a bit of spatiousness and some SPL, but little else.

I'll be using an Alpine EXtreme Power mono which outputs 600 rms at 4 ohms and 1000 rms at 2 ohms. Planning on using two 10" Dayton Audio RSS265HO-4 DVC's in a Supercrewsound enclosure. I'll use an Audiocontrol line driver between the HU and the amp to get rid of any noise. It's my understanding the HU in the Bose system outputs a balanced signal and the line driver will convert that to unbalanced for the amp. I've already gone through this with my 04 Mazda 6s that had a Bose system. Ended up with absolutely no noise in that system.

If you just want added volume then leave them plugged in.

If you are into staging and imaging then you might not want to try it.

I would try it and see if you like it. If you don't, then just unplug the 6x9s.
