To be gentle on the issue I'm gonna tell you that, realistically, you have two options:

Garmin GPS
Sell the car

The cost to retrofit is ludicrously expensive and difficult.

Use WAZE and or Google Maps

Both are far superior. I rarely use my factory Nav

x2. I usually keep my screen on the status which shows my current MPG and what music I am currently playing. I do not use the stock navigation, ever. I use it to determine what street I am on as it displays your current street.

My last car was a 2008 TL with navigation. I used google maps over the nav.

Current car is a 2011 G37 with navi. I still use Google maps on my phone instead of factory nav.

Factory navi is out dated and doesn't take traffic and new construction into account.

This is why my next car will likely be a Audi. The newer ones use google maps as their navigation system.

I have the factory nav in mine. This summer bought a garmin driveluxe 50 gps. It's great for when we do the roadtrips on the roads much less traveled (no data signal). Create the custom routes on the pc, then upload to the gps to follow. For basic commuting/local, waze or google maps is great.

This....I use the Navi for long trips, I think the factory navi is the bees knees.

I would also strongly consider avoiding the factory Navigation Package option if you had to do it alone. Upgrading it would be complicated, but there are after-market systems also for the same process that could make the process much easier and you get some media features too. I saw one called the Metra INIFINITY G37 dash kit 99-7625B seems close to the Package options that are found in the G Journey Sedan models with Nav.

Off your topic, I thought the factory navigation package was good, especially since the hands-free law is now in effect here in CA. Yes, it comes with the GPS, like the others state. The navigation HDD System also has a SiriusXM Radio Weather/Travel/Traffic, you pay a small fee each month for the service to get live traffic, great for a daily driver. *The Digital Compass in mirror is replaced by compass on-screen display.

So when the compass is pointing (red arrow) at the 1:30 position, what direction are you going? Hint, it's not NE.

As I’ve stated in the past, there are two kinds of G37 owners: those who have factory nav and those without who eventually wish they had.

Yes, some of these aftermarket devices work well, but they often suffer from drivers having to remove them when parked in public lest they be stolen, contributing to dashboard clutter, and lack of integration with built-in features such as MPG charts and other reminders that appear on the nav screen.

Or people who swap that out for a Nexus 7 in dash. Much better screen resolution and you can use google maps satellite view

Hah! Not quite retarded. I had to do some research and learn how to properly read a compass. Kind of makes me wish I had some boy scouts sessions when I was younger.

They should just make it point the direction you're going, not the direction of N.

Navigation install

I have navigation in my 2011 G37 and rarely use it. A smart phone does a better job and doesn't require expensive updating.
