Remote Starter?
Anyone have it on their G37 coupe?
I am thinking about getting one for the winter here. What are the pros and cons?
Bad for the engine, such as more wear and tear?
Can anyone recommend a brand?
Whats the average price for one and how much would an average install be?

They have plug and play remote starters for G37's and other infinities for a little less than $170 for the extended range and $130 for stock key fob only. If you're comfortable doing it yourself that's not bad at all and I'm thinking of doing it for the winter. I have to walk 10 minutes just to get to my car, in the cold. Search Amazon.
Thanks!
I've been looking into it for a while, but couldnt really decide on it. Not many people talk about it on here and when people do, they get blasted for not simply stepping out and starting the car manually. When the winter is frozen over, it helps when the car is warmed up first since the de-icing is also quicker.

I agree. It especially sucks when it's snowing and a five minute walk I dealt with, but with push button start I can't just press the button like I turn the key, I gotta get in, leather is freezing, put my foot on the brakes, start it, Rush in. It sucks. With a 10 minute walk through the lot, it sucks even more.
Professionally installed starters cost $200+, $300+ on infiniti's, so for $170 I can install it myself and know it's done right and get 1500+ft range. Not bad at all, the convenience over 5 years is worth it! $34 a year, $3 a month.
My only issue is, will it effect warranty? I don't feel like it should. Worst case I remove it before taking the car in.

Remote Starter?
I really want one on my six speed, but I don't like having anything on my keys. Literally I have my fob and a leather strap just to give the key a little something to hold on to.
That's the beauty of this system. It uses the stock key fob. Just hit the lock button 3 times. But if you want extended range, you need the extra key fob. During the summer I can put the extra key fob away and come winter I can stick it on my key chain and deal for a few months. Either way, I can still use the stock fob. I think I'm gonna pull the trigger and do it.
Edit:
Originally wanted to link this but it seems it sold out. It was $130. I'm going to get the extended range $170 one.

I installed a Directed/Viper SmartStart system in my car. Did the install myself with a wiring harness and I did not cut a single wire. With this system you can start your car by pressing the lock button 3 times on the FOB and anywhere from your cell phone.

I've had the Viper Smart Start installed in my car for the past 3 years and never had any issues with it. The only downside is since the remote start runs off of an app on your phone, you have to pay for the app every year.

What kit did you purchase and where? Can you provide details on the harness you purchased? What is the range of the OEM key FOB? Sounds like a slick system! Thanks

Above I have the links of the three components of the system. I purchased the harness from Amazon and the Dball2 and SmartStart module from Visions (a electronics store here in Calgary, Canada).
The range of the fob remained unchanged, of course. So it only works when you are quite close to the car. For any distance I use the app on my android smart phone.
I love the system because I don't have to have any additional fobs on my keychain and I'm always carrying my phone. The range is essentially unlimited just as long as the car has cell phone signal.
