HDD Music Box issue

Hello

I am new to the forum but have lurked for some time. My 2010 G37 S sedan is having an issue with the music box. The dealer told me today that there was nothing they could do...... not what I wanted to hear.

It takes between 30 seconds to many minutes to initialize now, whereas it was instantaneous. Tonight, driving home from the dealership, it did not initialize at all. The dealer did not play with it (supposedly), so this must be coincidental.

Browsing the threads here, I came across how to access a diagnostic screen by pressing the "settings" button with the radio off and turning the volume **** until "Diagnostics" came up. That thread stated there is a "HDD" setting; mine does not have one.

Can anyone shed any light on this, and has anyone tried or heard of changing out the HD?

Thanks in advance, and Happy 4th of July!

Ken in San Jose CA

I believe the entire head unit will have to be replaced. The hard drive is an off-the-shelf super sturdy model, but as with all spinning media it is possible to fail. There's no way to simply swap the drive as you won't be able to copy or recreate the file system and OS.
