I know there are aftermarket cameras that come with the Video cable so you can just plug it straight into an double din. Has anyone modified the factory back up camera to do this? If not i'm thinking I'll just stick the aftermarket camera I have in the camera cutout on the OEM spoiler.

Not 100% sure what you're asking but my '08 Bose non-NAV didn't come with the camera. I installed the OEM camera and wired it to the AUX input in my center console. Works perfectly with exception of having to press AUX on the AV unit- which is a temporary "inconvenience." Once I get my front and side mirror camera projects finalized everything will be OEM functional.

How did you wire the factory backup camera to the A/V port? I was looking at it and it has just a harness

The camera harness has 4 wires:

RED= 12v (+)
BLACK= shield (?)
YELLOW= video signal
WHITE= ground wire (-)

I already had a unused wire harness in the deck lid for the 3rd brake light in the spoiler (which I don't have) so I was able to splice into those 2 wires for my power needs.

I did have to run one wire from the camera (YELLOW) through to the center console where I tapped into the video signal wire there. I didn't use the RCA plugs because my iPhone uses them for something else. Don't ask.

I also had to rework the positive wire in the deck kid going to the camera. At the main harness I had to clip that wire and tap into the REVERSE signal wire so the camera would power up when I placed the car in reverse.

I'm sure the SHIELD wire serves some purpose but the camera works fine without it connected to anything so I left that alone.

This is how I did it on my coupe. The whole install took about 2 hours- running the video wire the most time consuming. I bought the chrome spoiler with a camera off eBay for $50.

Except for the lack of guidelines- which I didn't want- and having to hit AUX- a temporary inconvenience until I get my other camera projects underway- the rearview camera works absolutely perfectly for my needs.

Awesome just what I was looking for. My only question is, so did you tap the video wire from the camera into the wire going into the RCA port? So spliced it into the actual wire correct? And I looked on ebay and now the spoiler with camera is $150!

If memory serves- it's been a while- there is a connector with 5 wires going from the AUX/RCA inputs to the AV Controller. I just tapped into the video signal wire- I think it was a green wire but check your car and the FSM to confirm this- I just used a digital multimeter and probed until I found the right one.

As a side note, I used the Scotch Posi-Tap connectors for this install as I knew that this setup is only temporary and they save a lot of cutting and splicing of wires.

Where is the AV controller located?

The AV Controller is located in the front dash right behind the clock. You don't need to touch it for this particular project. Once you run the video wire from the deck lid and through the back seat/center tunnel, it just taps into the video wire in the center console.

As mentioned, the hardest part of this project is running that video wire from the trunk harness through the center tunnel. Infiniti uses some tar-like adhesive under the carpet which makes fishing the wire a little time consuming but nothing too difficult.

One last question, how did you bypass the "video will come back when car is stopped" message? I have to stop to use the back up camera. By the way thanks for the help, it worked perfect. Spliced the video cable into the harness that connects to the AUX input. Will upload some pictures later

Any update on bypassing this message? Also, do I need just the camera with connector or also the module that I find on ebay?

Ya there is a speed sensor/ ebrake that you have to cut and ground in the back of the radio so that the car can not tell if you are moving. Yes you need just the camera and buy a really long video cable from amazon and splice it from the camera's video wire to the a/v harness in the center console. I took some pictures I can upload them for you.

^^ Wiring diagram for the harness plugged into the a/v port under the center console. This from the FSM for the 2008, I'm pretty sure it should be the same for any year.



splice video cable from back up camera to the green wire, which is the video feed. There is a DIY somewhere on how to remove the entire center console, start from the back. I think I just used the FSM to do it. Run the cable under the passenger seat (kind of tricking because you're hand will not go under it). And run along the panels to the back of car. And up under the speaker deck, and into the little harness holder that connects to the top of the trunk. Then splice power and ground of the camera into the reverse lights. And done!

That's exactly how I did it. FYI, the passenger seat bottom comes out easy enough. Find the two clips, grab the cushion at the clips and pull straight up. It will be easier to run the wire from the console, under the rear carpet to the rear deck with the bottom removed and the seatback folded down.

Do we know if there is any way to make the car switch to this video feed automatically when the car is put into reverse? (for non-nav/camera cars)
