One or Two 10" Subs?
One or Two 10" Subs?
I was looking at zenclosures and they offer a box for two 10s or a single 10 to mount on the side of the trunk.
I listen mainly to Alt Rock and Hard Rock.
I found someone saying two 10s might be too much for the stock Base to compete with. Any thoughts?

Well th ones zenclosures offer is a single 10 or dual 10s so I'm looking at one of those.
The problem with the stock Base is that, while the audio is clear, it has no punch. I don't need to have the neighbors hearing bass but I don't want it to add to the music. I had a 2006 Dodge Charger r/t and it was the Onky car I never felt the need to play with the audio. I think it was an Infinity setup. But it came with a sub and I can't remember what it was. It was perfect as music sounded great.
Like I said, I read people saying the bass could out perform the speakers and all you hear is bass. I listen to rock so I don't want that. I want it to add to the music, not be the focal point.

Two 10" aftermarket subs will definitely overpower the stock audio in the car. However, as most have said it comes down to your goals, what you listen to and how you listen to it. 12's will give you lower, tighter bass but will require more amp to control it.

I agree with the consensus here, one 10" sub is more than adequate for our cars, especially if you're not upgrading any other factory components. I installed a single 10" JL 10W0v3-4 with only a 250W JL JX250-1 amplifier. It has enough punch to feel the rock bass "kicking" my seat and enough boom from hip-hop songs to shake my mirrors and tickle the hairs on the back of my neck. Any more bass from that one sub would drown out the mids and highs from all the other factory Bose speakers combined. The single sub also doesn't take up very much trunk room, so I'm glad I went in that direction.

At a local car audio shop here in San Antonio, but I saw a lot of boxes just like it on ebay and other places online for $50 or less. In my search, I learned that most enclosures use either 1/2" or 5/8" thick wood. Be sure to get the thicker of the two.
Heavy duty velcro, believe it or not. I used liquid nails to augment the adhesiveness of the velcro's sticky backing and let it setup on the box and the trunk carpet for 24 hours before connecting one half of the velcro to the other. It holds firmly in place, but can easily be removed quickly if I need the extra storage space.

Please use this seller on ebay. I've heard nothing but great things about them, and they will create the proper airspace that your sub requires by spec.
