Which iPod to get for 2012 G37S 6MT?

I'm not too pleased with how the USB thumb drive works on my 2012 G37, you can't even scroll through your list of music without the system trying to play every song you highlight. I would like to pick up a used iPod that will always be connected to the car so I can play my music. I know that not all the iPods will probably turn on/off with the car and will charge. I tried to search for an answer already but many of the threads seemed to be about the pre-2010 Gs which have an older head unit. Can anyone tell me which iPod to get? Will the iPod touch 4th generation work fine?

usually anything with larger 30 pin adapter works fine.
My 6 year old 80gb ipod classic and iphone 4s both work with no problem

some have had issues with the lightning adapter

I use a Nano (4th gen? / square) and it charges, and turns on and off with the car. It's also one of the smaller options.

What kind of problems are people having who are using the lightning connector?
I'm trying to decide between the iPod Touch 4th gen or 5th Gen. The 5th gen has a lightning connector, will that give me issues?

I just picked up my car today (thursday) and the problem I have been having is it freezing up. I am using a 1st gen Ipod touch and it plays a few songs then it gets to one it doesnt like and just freezes. I can't skip past it I have to unplug the ipod, find a new song and hope it plays, then plug it back in. That **** is annoying! Is it just a glitch or the old Ipod?

iPod touch would be a waste of money to permanently sit in your car as a iPod. Unless you plan on playing games with it while you're in the car. I'd do a iPod nano. I bought a older iPod nano on Craigslist for like 50$. Works perfectly fine, small enough to fit in the small armrest compartment.

I use the 30-pin to lightning adapter with my iPhone 5. It doesn't charge my phone but otherwise it works 90% of the time. On occasion it will start to act up when trying to control the music through the steering column controls or the dash controls. (eg: unable to skip songs; and (while rare) it will cut out entirely). These quirks, when they occur, are easily remedied by unplugging my phone and connecting it again. Truthfully, it doesn't happen enough to bother me; my only complaint is that it wont charge my phone; i have to keep a separate wire for that.

As someone also mentioned, an iPod touch is a bit overkill if its just for use in your car. I would recommend just picking up an iPod shuffle.

I still think there is a short in mine. Makes no sense that it plays a few songs then just gets to a song it doesn't like and stops. Cant advance, can't back up...I have to unplug it, find a new song and then plug it in. Its weird
